AEW CEO Tony Khan held a media scrum today to promote this Sunday’s AEW Dynasty 2026 event at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada.
Some of the notable highlights included:
- On the topic of TNA Wrestling’s new restrictions not allowing their contracted talents to work matches against AEW talents at indies shows, Khan stated that he had approved of the matches for MJF and Ricochet and was “surprised to see those matches were changed as a result of the other company not wanting them involved.” Khan also stated that those matches were previously agreed upon by both companies.
- On the topic of Kyle Fletcher’s recent injury, Khan stated that Fletcher’s injury affected his plans for several shows including this Sunday’s Dynasty 2026 event and other TNT title defenses. Khan also stated that he has taken a half-full approach to Fletcher’s injury due to there is also a lot of positivity since he is only expected to be out for months and not a year or anything like that. Khan also stated that he is currently hopeful that Fletcher will be back in time for this year’s All In event in London.
- On the topic of Chris Jericho’s recent return to AEW, Khan stated that Jericho had signed a new multi-year deal and that he wanted Jericho back in AEW. Khan also stated that Jericho had a lot of options from around the world of wrestling.
- On the topic of if Jericho wanted to return to the ring at Dynasty 2026 a year after he left, Khan stated 100%. Khan also stated that they had talked and Jericho wanted to return on AEW television at Winnipeg and be back in the ring at the Dynasty 2026 event.
- On the topic of his bid for WWE in 2023 during WWE’s sale process, Khan stated “I looked at it and felt that it was certainly, for me, in my capacity as the CEO and owner of AEW, a very interesting opportunity in the market. When we launched seven years ago as a challenger promotion, I never imagined I would have even an opportunity to consider such a position. And given some of the restrictions, I think compared to other people, I was flying blind. Some of this, I guess, is publicly available information. I will respect the process, and there’s only so much I can say, but based on the information I had to put a bid together, I basically had the same market information everyone else had, which is why the bid I made was very close to the stock market price.”
- Khan continued stating that he was not given access to a data room which typically is where sellers provide serious bidders with non-public financial and internal information but he understood why he want not granted that access. Khan stated “I had no more information than the rest of the public, no data room access or anything, and I’m sure that’s why they all made it further in the process than I did. As to what happened after my involvement in it, I can’t say with the other three parties, but I understood why they wouldn’t want to give me data room access.”
- Khan also gave his thoughts about what his plans would have been had his bid been successful to purchase WWE. Khan stated “We never even gotten close to considering that. But knowing what was happening in the world of wrestling, I think it made sense for me to do the things that I did there.”
- On the topic of a potential future collaboration with Juggalo Championship Wrestling following his recent interview on Vince Russo and Johnathan Coachman’s podcast, Khan didn’t not give an answer but stated that some wrestlers have worked in both companies. Khan also praised JCW for being a “cool” company.
- On the topic of if more Joshi talent will be used in “Timeless” Toni Storm’s abscense, Khan stated that Yuka Sakazaki will be in an ROH Survival of the Fittest qualifying match and that Hikaru Shida will team with Kris Statlander at this Saturday’s Collision. Khan also stated that AEW will be working with Stardom this summer on events including this year’s Forbidden Door event.
- On the topic of the potential of AEW running an event at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando due to the Jacksonville Jaguars will be playing there in 2027 due to renovations, Khan stated that it is a great idea but also something he had never considered until getting that question.
