Backstage Update on Chris Jericho’s AEW Return & Current Status
As noted before, Chris Jericho made his surprise return to AEW earlier this month following him being absent from the company for a year.
Fightful Select reported that their sources confirmed that Jericho had signed a new contract with AEW in the past month. It was reported that while the terms of Jericho’s new contract is currently not known, it is believed that he had signed a multi-year deal with the company.
It was reported that Jericho had discussions with WWE regarding a potential return to the company. Jericho reportedly had expressed to others that he was open to returning to WWE but he felt that the promotion would try to limit his outside projects if he went back to them.
In regards to the current plans for him, it was reported that Jericho prefers to be simply called “Jericho” for his ring name referral going forward but his full name of Chris Jericho will still be used at times on AEW television.
Jim Ross Provides Update on His Health Status
AEW commentator Jim Ross has made sporadic appearnces in AEW in recent years due to him dealing with various health and injury-related issues, including a battle with skin and colon cancer that he was “free” from this past June.
A recent episode of the Grilling JR podcast featured co-host Ross giving an update stating that he will not be returning at AEW’s Dynasty 2026 event but he is currently hoping of making a return to AEW’s commentary team at this May’s Double or Nothing 2026 event in Queens, New York.
“Probably next month, because I don’t think I’m going to go to Vancouver. It’s just a hard trip, and that’s the only thing that I have issues with in my life, is traveling, cramping and my legs hurting and all that. So I’m up for anything, but flying that far is daunting, shall we say. But I feel good. I feel really good. I feel better than I have in a long time, and I should be back at a more normal schedule sooner than later.
I’m doing good. I feel good. I’m feeling better every day. It’s just a process. I didn’t know how sick I was.”
