Saturday’s WWE WrestleMania 42 Night 1 event in Las Vegas, Nevada featured Cody Rhodes defeating Randy Orton to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship. Following the match, Orton attacked Rhodes with the title and laid him out with a punt kick.
Following the show, WWE commentator Joe Tessitore announced during the post-show that Rhodes had suffered an eye injury that was caused by Orton’s punt kick.
In a follow-up, Peter Rosenberg stated that Rhodes could be in the concussion protocol for three days due to his injury.
WWE posted a video on Twitter of Rhodes being attended to backstage with his face bruised and bloodied and his eye swollen.
Bodyslam.net’s Cory Hays reported that Rhodes’ scheduled meet and greet for the remainder of WWE’s WWE World fan event this weekend in Las Vegas has been cancelled due to Rhodes’ injury.
