As noted before, Kilkenny councilor Maurice Shortall revealed in a recent interview with the Irish Mirror that Ireland is well placed to present a “credible and competitive” bid to WWE to potentially host a WrestleMania event in the future.
Fightful Select reported that their sources close to the situation stated that they view bringing WrestleMania to Ireland as a “long-term project” and one that is possible if the Irish government views the country as a global sporting hub.
It was reported that Ireland would be expected to at least match the $6 million site fee that was put forth by Las Vegas to host WrestleMania. Those within the Irish wrestling scene reportedly stated that they view this high monetary figure as a potential roadblock for a deal.
It was also reported that it is currently estimated that a WrestleMania event in Ireland could bring in close to €300 million to the economy.
In regards to potential host venue site, it was reported that if WrestleMania were to come to Ireland, the likely site for the event would be Croke Patk in Dublin due to its ability to hold more than 80,000 spectators. It was also reported that this stadium does not have a roof and Irish weather could also be a factor in bringing WrestleMania to the venue.
Those close to the project reportedly dismissed concerns regarding protests from Croke Park residents who had protested the NFL holding a game at Croke Park this past September.
