As noted before, Chris Jericho made his return to AEW this past April after being absent for a whole year. Since his return, Jericho has been mostly refereed to as just “Jericho” on AEW programming and not his full ring name as before in the company.
A recent episode of The Ringer’s The Mask Man Show podcast featured Jericho as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Jericho’s thoughts about his inspiration for his recent ring name change to just his last name in AEW.
“I like the idea of what I’m doing now with Jericho and just by not using that first name a lot, it creates this whole intrigue online like, ‘What’s he doing? What’s the idea? What’s the reason?’ Honestly, it’s like a self-titled album, that’s where I kind of got the idea from. I could create a dozen other nicknames, but how many more do I need? Everyone knows who Jericho is. When you hear that name, then you can go remember whatever memories you have on your own. So, it really is like Metallica with The Black Album. It didn’t need to be called anything. You know who Metallica is, you know what’s going on. The Beatles, The White Album, same thing. So, that’s kind of what the idea is for the Jericho era. I like it, I like what’s been going on. I’m kind of going with the flow and seeing what’s working and what’s not.”
Jericho also gave his thoughts about the possibility of him making a return appearance for the second season of the Margo’s Got Money Troubles comedy drama television series on Apple TV. Jericho portrayed himself in the series’ first season.
“It just got picked up for a second season and there’s a possibility that there’ll be more Jericho and Jinx because like you said, the seeds have been planted that Jericho and Jinx know each other, love each other, have a backstory. So, if they want to delve into it, it went so well that it would be a blast to do.”
