Maria Kanellis Comments of Evolution in Women’s Wrestling & Biggest Difference Being Women’s Wrestlers Who Have Kids Compared to When She First Started
Wrestling Life Online held a recent interview with former WWE, TNA, and AEW/ROH wrestler Maria Kanellis. One of the topics discussed included Kanellis’ thoughts about the biggest differences in today’s era of women’s wrestling compared to when she started her wrestling career being the changes for women’s wrestlers who have children.
“When I first started, if you had a kid, you were quiet about it. You didn’t talk about it. You didn’t talk about your children and bless the women that did because that schedule way back when was so much harder than what I left wrestling and You used to be on the road four or five days a week, and at the time there was no FaceTime. So you were leaving your baby at home. You didn’t have the opportunities that you do now, as far as FaceTime and being able to connect on the phone. A lot of times, if you went internationally, you didn’t talk to anybody back home. There was no way. So the women that were able to have children back then and kept it quiet, they had to be strong women.”

In a recent interview with the Sports Jedi Network, Leon Slater gave his thoughts about his three favorite moments from his record tying TNA X-Division Championship reign that came to an end at then hands of Cedric Alexander at the May 14th episode of TNA Impact! Slater stated “I would say moment number one, the beginning of me and Je’Von. We didn’t touch, we didn’t move a muscle. We stood there and people stood up, we got a standing ovation before we even touched. I think that was a testament to the work that he was doing in NXT and a testament to the work I was doing in TNA. Number two for me would probably be the match itself against Myron Reed. That was the first time I’ve ever main evented at TNA pay-per-view in a singles match. Not only to have a killer match against someone I’ve looked up to for a while — I used to watch Myron’s highlights on the way to training. Not only to have a match against him but for the company to trust us to go and deliver the main event of a TNA PLE, that’s something super special. I’m tossing and turning between John Cena’s last match and being on that sort of stage as the X-Division Champion and doing SmackDown in my home country as the X-Division Champion. That’s like 3A and 3B for me, you know what I mean? Both super special moments obviously.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
