Tiger Mask To Compete In Two Matches For His In-Ring Retirement at 7/7 NJPW Tiger Mask Retirement Event

As noted before, NJPW wrestler and Japanese legend Tiger Mask, also known as Tiger Mask IV, is currently scheduled to be retiring from his in-ring wrestling career at NJPW’s event on July 7th in Tokyo, Japan.

NJPW provided an update earlier today announcing that Tiger Mask will be competing in two matches at his upcoming retirement event.

It was announced that Tiger Mask will be competing in singles matches against Black Tiger IV and “Dynamite Kid” Tommy Billington at the event.

It was also announced that a tribute to Tiger Mask and the legacy of the Tiger mask itself will be taking place at the event as well.

Tiger Mask collides with historic rivals on retirement card!

Black Tiger IV, next generation of Dynamite Kid to battle Tiger Mask in final matches

After a 31 year career, the fourth generation of Tiger Mask will call it a career on July 7. His retirement card on Korakuen Hall will see a tribute to not only his own career, but the history of Tiger mask at large, and Tiger Mask IV will be doing double duty on the evening.

While Magnus has taken the mantle of the ninth and latest Black Tiger in CMLL, it is with the fourth iteration of the nefarious masked man that Tiger Mask IV has the deepest connection to. A heated rivalry through the mid 2000s would flare up again in 2009, ending in a Ryogoku Hall IWGP Junior Heavyweight title versus mask match. Black Tiger would lose the apuestas bout and reveal himself as Rocky Romero; now 17 years on, Rocky will don the mask for one night only to take on the old enemy one more time.

While Tiger Mask versus Black Tiger is a feud that goes beyond the ring and into the original Tiger Mask anime and manga, in NJPW and around the world, one rivalry has defined the Tiger Mask legend throughout the generations. On April 23 1981, Satoru Sayama made his first appearance as the original Tiger Mask, facing British great the Dynamite Kid, and the feud between the two men, ever escalating as Dynamite tried and tried again to beat his nemesis entranced fans everywhere from Kuramae in Tokyo to Madison Square Garden in New York. Now, 45 years on, Tiger Mask versus Dynamite Kid is at the top of a billing once more, as the 24 year old nephew of the original Dynamite, Tommy Billington takes on the fourth Tiger Mask on this special night.
