As noted before, Saturday’s WWE Night of Champions 2026 event at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia featured Sami Zayn defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a Triple Threat match to become the new Undisputed WWE Championship.
During the WWE Night of Champions post-show, Zayn was interviewed by Byron Saxton for his thoughts about his Undisputed WWE Championship victory and winning the WWE title for the first time in his career.
“Some good, and lately, some bad. A lot of folks said I would never win the WWE Championship. But I stand here tonight, in front of my people… It is hard to believe. Oh my God. I’m not usually at a loss for words but…”
In response to the crowd interrupting him chanting “you deserve it,” Zayn responded stating:
“You know what? You’re damn right I deserve it! 20-plus years in the game at the highest level, never got the recognition. 10-plus years chasing this championship, never got the recognition. I don’t care what happens to me tomorrow, next week, next month, next year. Forever, I will be Sami Zayn, WWE Champion.”
Following Zayn’s victory, Kevin Owens reflected on Twitter about his longtime friend Zayn finally winning the WWE title in his WWE career.
“I’ve missed a lot of things I wish I hadn’t in the last 15 months because of this injury but today is, by far, the one I wish I had been there for the most.
He has brought out the best in me as both an ally and a foe. That’s because he is THE best.
When you’re consistently that good for that long, you become undeniable.
Sami becoming WWE Champion was inevitable. He has deserved that moment for a very long time and I am so happy to see him finally get it.
Now enjoy these pictures of me annoying him at various stages of our careers. The last one is him putting on my sock in a hotel room in the middle of nowhere in Texas because I thought I had broken my back the night before and could not move. He had to help me put on my boxers too.
Look how happy he is…
Now tell me he doesn’t deserve to be champion!”
