A recent episode of The Nikki & Brie Show podcast featured WWE Hall of Famer and co-host Nikki Bella giving her thoughts about her feeling disappointed with the lack of time she received for her singles match against Lainey Reid at the July 3rd episode of WWE SmackDown. Bella also stated that she had been pushing for some time to get a singles match since her return to WWE.
“As everyone saw this past Friday Night SmackDown, I finally got a singles match. I’ve been pitching a while to have a singles match. I’ve been wanting it forever. So when I finally was like, ‘Oh, I get a singles match,’ I was super excited. When I heard the times… I was bummed. But also, I understand SmackDown is back to two hours. It’ll be two hours until January. So all of a sudden when you have all these storylines going on SmackDown and it’s a three hour show, and then boom, you get cut down to two hours, you’re back to fighting for TV time, and they’re gonna condense a lot of stuff. So a part of me understood it. I won’t lie, I was bummed. For me, this is how I look at it. They tried to get a bunch of stuff in. Obviously, I’m always grateful to be on the card. I mean, did I make jokes? Like when I went back, Paige and I were like, ‘How did I lose my time?’ Or if there’s anyone we can give three minutes to, it’s Brie Bella because she’s from the Diva Era, and I did. Paige was honestly like, ‘Are you bummed?’ I’m not gonna lie, I’m not here to stroke anyone and make anyone feel good about themselves. I was bummed, of course. I think I left the fans wanting more. I’ll admit even when I heard my time before I got to the building, I was pissed. But then I was like, ‘You know what? Look what I get to do for a living.”
Bella also gave her thoughts about WWE allowing her to use her husband Bryan Danielson’s signature moves despite him currently being in AEW.
“My biggest thing I asked for is, ‘I want to put on the Yes Lock.’ And they let me. I honestly will be honest, I didn’t know if they would, because it is Bryan’s. And when people see the Yes Lock, it’s not like they think of Brie Bella. Hopefully I change that, but they think of Daniel Bryan. So I was very grateful.
He was like, ‘Brie, I’m retired. If there’s anyone in the world I want to have my moves, it’s my wife.’ So that made me feel good.”
