Backstage Update on Jacques Rougeau Tribute Video Not Airing at AEW Redemption

As noted before, former WWE wrestler Jacques Rougeau was involved in a backstage incident at AEW’s Redemption event this past July in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This incident revolved around Rougeau throwing a “tantrum” backstage after AEW had refused to use a video he created for the Rougeau Family tribute on the show. This video had contained footage and music that AEW did not have the rights to and also had A.I.-generated content that AEW did not want to use for the show. Rougeau recently posted the video on his official Facebook account.

Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that the main reason why AEW refused to air Rougeau’s video was due to AEW CEO Tony Khan being against the usage of AI content for AEW shows. Meltzer reported that the video being too long in length and containing music and footage AEW did not have the rights to were other key reasons for AEW’s decision. Meltzer also reported that the biggest issue was the footage of Rougeau pinning Hulk Hogan at a WCW house show in Montreal was owned by WWE, which means AEW couldn’t legally show it on their show.

Meltzer reported that Rougeau wanted his pin of Hogan to be out there due to it being his big claim of fame locally but when AEW refused, that was what led to him being unhappy and causing the incident backstage.

Meltzer also reported that everything between AEW and Rougeau is fine now but this backstage situation was absolutely an issue at the event and even building security was aware of it.

Meltzer also reported that even if there was only one issue with the video itself, AEW still wouldn’t have allowed it to contain the footage of Rougeau pinning Hogan since that they knew they would get sued by WWE if the video aired on their show.
