Donovan Dijak on Working with Bishop Dyer (Baron Corbin) in MLW & Being Open To Potential Future Return To WWE

Fightful held a recent interview with Major League Wrestling talent Donovan Dijak. One of the topics discussed included Dijak’s thoughts about him teaming with Bishop Dyer, also known as Baron Corbin in WWE, as the tag team The Skyscrappers during their time together in MLW.

“Thrilled. I couldn’t have been happier. We got to work together one time in WWE. It was a triple threat with Carmelo Hayes, and it was so much fun. He was at a point in his career where he really had a chip on his shoulder and he wanted to prove something, and then he came into here with that exact same chip. It was two guys who really had something to prove in a situation that encouraged that. So we were both very happy about that. We got to wrestle together in Mexico. We got to work together in Australia. We were supposed to wrestle together in Australia. I don’t know if you saw what happened to his eye. I was standing 10 feet from it when it happened. I was like, ‘Oh, my God,’ because he comes up just covered in blood. His eye looks like it’s hanging out of the socket. It was brutal. I was like, ‘Oh, there goes that tag match we were supposed to have.’”

Dijak also gave his thoughts about his praise of Corbin for being a pioneer of moves.

“I think it’s so cool when you come back to the indies and you experience a lot of people calling matches and stuff that moves and things and setups and things get referred to by wrestlers’ names. So often will people talk about, ‘I’m gonna hit you with a Deep Six,’ or ‘I’m gonna hit you with with an End of Days,’ and I’m like, it must be like a very fulfilling thing to know that, because that does not happen with me. Because my moves are way too complex to be referred to, no one would ever pick up someone in a Torture Rack and, ‘I’m gonna go for the Feast Your Eyes.’ I’ve never heard that before, but End of Days and Deep Six you hear constantly on the indies. So that’s cool that he’s sort of set himself up as like a pioneer of moves and stuff like that. He’s not a guy who would want to be known as like a pioneer. He’s, like, the last person. He’s like, ‘It’s not about the moves. It’s about the moments and the emotions, stuff like that.’ The fact that he’s established as a moves guy is very funny.”

In a separate recent interview with TheDaleStars, Dijak also gave his thoughts about his interest in a potential return to WWE and reunion with Corbin in the future.

“I’d certainly be open to it under the right and correct circumstances.In terms of The Skyscrapers IP, I don’t know who owns that. I presume that MLW has some sort of ownership of it. I don’t know how maybe it expired and they renewed it or something like that. I have no idea but WWE obviously owns the WCW library and stuff like that. I’m not great with intellectual property law, but yeah, I’d certainly love to keep working with him.

The amount of time we got to work together was unfortunately a little too brief. In that short amount of time, we were able to do some cool stuff, but the reality was it was only about a year, and MLW only runs about once a month, so we probably only had twelve or thirteen matches together.

Yeah, I certainly hope there’s more in the future. I don’t know what company that might be with but I’m open to any possibility.”
