Bandido on Importance of Wrestling at Arena Mexico For Luchadores, How Brody King Has Helped Him A Lot As A Wrestler and Father, & Test He Failed When He Asked His Dad If He Could Begin Wrestling Training At 10 Years Old

A recent episode of the AEW Close-Up with Renee Paquette show featured AEW World Trios Champion and ROH World Champion Bandido as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Bandido’s thoughts about the iconic Arena Mexico and how wrestling at the venue makes someone a “real luchador” in pro wrestling.

“Arena Mexico is like, for a wrestler, an achievement to be here. If you have a match here, you can say you are a real luchador. There are some places in the world, when you are in Japan, Korakuen Hall, Tokyo Dome. When you’re in the states, Madison Square Garden. It’s the same feeling to be here in Arena Mexico.”

Bandido also gave his thoughts about his friendship with Brody King and how he has helped him a lot both as a wrestler and as a father.

“Oh, he helped me a lot. He always takes care of me, and also he… outside to the ring, he’s giving me advice. I really love the way he is as a father. He is amazing as a father. He has something special with his kids, and I really love his style. I learn too much from him. I put that things in practice with my daughter too.”

Bandido also gave his thoughts about a test his father gave him when he asked if he could begin wrestling training at just 10 years old and how he had failed that test.

“I really wanted to train wrestling when I was 10 years old, and my father told me, ‘yeah, if you can do 10 push-ups, you’re gonna be able to train wrestling.’ I did only seven push-ups. Yeah, I did only seven push-ups then, yeah. My father laughed at me, and he said, ‘ah, sorry, son, not this time.’ Then he moved for, we don’t have enough money to… Well, you know, the situation was bad and my father has to be moved to the States to work a little bit. Yeah, so my house was alone with my mother, my sister, my brother too. I was the big guy, you know, in charge of the house, and when my father was not there, I had the opportunity to train. Without his permission. Yeah, you know? A new gym, Lucha gym, opened in front of my house. So I just went to train.”
