As noted before, Rebel, real name Tanea Brooks, was diagnosed with terminal ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) this past May. AEW has released a special “Rebel Heart” merchandise with 100% of the profits going to support those affected by ALS. Rebel became an ambassador for the I AM ALS organization this past June. AEW will be holding a special themed “Rebel Heart” episode of AEW Dynamite on September 9 in Athens, Georgia in honor of Rebel.
Over the course of recent weeks, several AEW talents and personalities have been participating and challenging their co-workers to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in support of Rebel. Besides those from AEW, others from within the wrestling world have also been nominated and participated in the challenge including Nattie, Tyson Kidd, and Bayley from WWE.
Cody Rhodes recently participated in the challenge and posted a video on Instagram.
In his video, Rhodes accepted the challenge from his brother and AEW talent Dustin Rhodes and nominated Brodie Lee Jr., Brooke Havok, and Chelsea Green.
