Paramount’s Acquisition Of Warner Bros. Discovery Update – Settlement Talks Between Paramount & State Attorneys Generals Called Off

As noted before, Warner Bros Discovery announced this past April that their shareholders had voted in approval of Paramount Skydance’s acquisition deal for the company. The United States Department of Justice had officially approved Paramount’s acquisition deal this past June but several state attorneys generals filed a joint lawsuit and the Writer’s Guild of America also filed a lawsuit this past July against Paramount trying to prevent the acquisition deal from going through. Paramount agreed to put their deal on hold until either June of 2027 or the lawsuits are resolved. WBD is the current media broadcast partner of AEW.

The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that settlement talks between Paramount and the 12 States Attorney Generals that were scheduled to continue today were called off by California Attorney General Rob Bent.

Bent reportedly accused Paramount of recently leaking incorrect information and that was also supposed to be confidential to the Wall Street Journal.

Paramount issued an official statement in response stating that they were also upset by the leaked information but claimed they were not the ones leaking it.

Meltzer reported that these talks were part of a settlement attempt by Paramount that would have involved them not buying several of the cable channels owned by WBD with CNN being the key one.

Meltzer also reported that from a wrestling standpoint, TBS and TNT would be the key ones but nobody knows if they will be used by Paramount to try and get a settlement deal for the lawsuit against them by the States Attorney Generals.
