Backstage: Athena, MIT

We opened tonight with Athena giving Billie Starkz a peptalk of sorts ahead of her match against Janai Kai. Athena asked Diamante to accompany Billie, but to not help out, as she wanted to see if Billie was as good as she says she is.

ROH World Tag Team Championship
RPG Vice (Rocky Romero & Trent Beretta) vs. El Sky Team (Mascara Dorada & Mistico) (c)

Romero and Trent took the ROH World Tag Titles as the referee was raising them and tried to prematurely celebrate with them.

No Code of Honor from RPG Vice as this match got underway with Mistico and Rocky as the legal men. Mistico and Rocky took turns playing to the crowd, with cheers for the former and boos for the latter. Rocky scored the takedown, but Mistico responded with a headscissors not long after. Leg sweep by Rocky, but that didn’t seem to affect Mistico at all. A kick from Mistico brought Rocky to his knees, but Beretta got a well-placed kick to the back of Mistico after an Irish whip. Beretta tagged in and worked over Mistico in the corner. A kick from Mistico allowed him to tag Dorada into the match.

Dorada performed a quick backflip, but his attempts at a springboard arm drag was briefly foiled by Romero messing with the ropes. That was for naught as Dorada pulled off his trademark move anyways on Beretta. An attempted springboard from Dorada was stopped by Beretta pulling him down from outside, as RPG Vice connected with a modified Doomsday Device to the outside. Dorada was then thrown into the barricade by Beretta, who took his time in working over his opponent. In the ring, Beretta hit Dorada with a suplex for a two-count.

Beretta went for an unfair advantage by pulling at Dorada’s mask as he tagged in Rocky. Dropkick to Mistico by Romero was followed by his trademark taunt. Fortunately for him, no aerial assasins lurking around to disrupt it. Dorada reversed Rocky’s suplex and hit an enzuigiri to break free and finally bring in Mistico for the hot tag.

Mistico took both RPG Vice members for a ride with a double arm drag. Mistico then connected with the high-angle springboard arm drag on Beretta, followed by a tiger feint kick to Rocky. Dorada made the save by taking out Rocky as he hit a tornillo on Beretta. Dorada blocked Beretta’s tornado DDT attempt and then used him as a base to hit a step-up hurricanrana on Rocky. With Rocky and Beretta on the outside, El Sky Team lived up to their names and launched an aerial attack on RPG Vice with stereo suicide dives.

Back in the ring, Dorada hoisted Beretta into an electric chair position and hit the spinning neckbreaker for a near-fall. Dorada tried to reach out for a tag, but Beretta pulled Mistico from the apron and hit him with the piledriver. Now it was a two-on-one RPG Vice advantage with Dorada trying his best to fight them. Double knees from Beretta and Rocky put Dorada on the ground. Half-and-half suplex from Beretta as Rocky went for the cover. Dorada was able to kick out at two. Beretta tagged as the running knee still wasn’t enough to get the three.

Beretta put Dorada on the top rope and tried for the hurricanrana. Dorada turned that into a roll-through pin for a near-fall. Beretta pulled at the mask of Dorada as he and Rocky hit the double-team Strong Zero. The cover… but Mistico ran in just in time to break up the pin. Mistico tagged in as a malfunction at the junction put RPG Vice in position for the two-for-one tiger feint kick. Mistico with the springboard crossbody on Rocky, but that went nowhere.

Beretta got blasted by the superkick from Mistico while Dorada hit him with the shooting star press. Meanwhile, Mistico finished off Rocky with the La Mistica submission hold to secure the title defense.

Winner: El Sky Team via Submission to retain the ROH World Tag Team Championship.

Alan Angels vs. Adam Priest

Match underway as the not-quite-biblical showdown between a Priest and an Angel(s) started with Alan Angels on the offensive with stomps in the corner, followed by the swinging neckbreaker. Whip into the corner, but Priest bounced right back and flattened Angels with the lariat. Big chop in the corner by Priest caused Angels to hit the mat hard. The European uppercut was then followed by the snap suplex from Priest. Angels responded with an elbow to the face, but Priest got the dragon screw followed by a seriously-applied single leg crab to Angels.

Angels caused Priest to go out of the ring as he got him with the kick from the apron, then nailing a perfect moonsault to leave his opponent staggered. Hard chop to the chest from Angels to Priest let him gain the advantage back in the ring. Whip off the ropes from Angels led to the back elbow to the face of Priest and a near-fall. Another big chop to the chest kept Angels in firm control here. Angels’ Wings attempt powered out with a back body drop from Priest. Angels bounced back with the combo, followed by a nice rebound basement German suplex and the spinning kick for the two.

Priest’s chest was being targeted by the stomps from Angels, who was in command of this match. Priest bounced back with the big chop block and a single leg crab that Lance Storm would approve of to pick up the tapout win.

Winner: Adam Priest via Submission.

Backstage: Shane Taylor Promotions

We heard from The Infantry and Shane Taylor Promotions, as they called their shots for ROH’s many titles. Shane Taylor said that the gang was back together and they were ready to rumble in Ring of Honor.

Preston Vance vs. Daron Richardson

Richardson didn’t want any of Vance’s Code of Honor handshake, but that only got him a big shoulder block from the man formerly known as Number 10. Richardson made a nice landing and decided to show off. That again ended badly for him as Vance struck him with the big boot, followed by a lariat or two. Running boot to the corner by Vance as Richardson’s chops had zero effect. Big spinebuster from Vance, who put an end to things with a discus lariat and the full-nelson submission to mark our third consecutive match ending on a submission.

Winner: Preston Vance via Submission.

Vance’s exit was interrupted by the Dark Order’s entrance, as an angry John Silver pushed past Vance. Meanwhile, Evil Uno and Alex Reynolds played peacemaker with him.

Six-Man Tag Team
Dark Order (Alex Reynolds, John Silver, & Evil Uno) vs. Kid Kaos, Landon Hale, & Papa Juice

Silver and Hale got this one going. Side headlock from Hale was reversed into a shoulder tackle from Silver. Big running Euro uppercut from Silver as he and Reynolds hit a nice double team flapjack on Hale. That was then followed by a Dark Order three-fer dropkick. Cravate suplex from Reynolds to Hale. Reynolds held his own against Kaos and Juice before Uno tagged in. Kick to the back from of Uno by Kaos, but that only got him a throw into the barriciade. Hale, meanwhile, got chucked into the steel steps. Reynolds and Uno shared a hug at ringside.

Back in the ring, Kaos and Juice had a hold of Uno as they kept the Mystery Wrestling founder isolated from his buddies with some nice teamwork. Hale tagged in, but this gave Uno enough time to fight out of the corner as Johnny Hungee stepped in.

Silver slammed Juice with a suplex, as the knee to the back of Hale was then followed by another German suplex. Dark Order nailed the flash combo of back suplexes and neckbreaker, followed by the rolling pin for the big win.

Winner: Dark Order via Pinfall.

Janai Kai vs. Billie Starkz

This match was set up four weeks ago, when Billie Starkz’ involvement in Kai’s Proving Ground match with Athena led to a loss for her.

Billie went for a cheapshot at the Code of Honor handshake, but Kai got a head of it and judo threw her as the bell rang. Waistlock and O’Connor roll from Kai blocked by Starkz, but that got turned into a pair of armdrags. Starkz backed Kai into the ropes, but then came the kicks from the appropriately-named Kick Demon.

Running attack into the corner by Starkz, but Kai dodged it and sent her out of the ring with a kick. Starkz was frustrated and tried to get a breather, but that only got her a big kick from the apron by Kai. Suplex attempt blocked as Starkz raked Kai’s eyes and then hit the ushigoroshi on her, knee meeting head there. Back inside the ring, as Starkz applied the Davey Boy Smith-approved chinlock on Kai. Starkz’ foot was caught by Kai, who nailed her with a quick combo. Charging boot led to a tornado DDT from the corner by Starkz. Up the top rope, but Starkz’s swan dive missed big time. Kick by Kai was followed by the half-nelson throw for the two-count.

Kai sized up Starkz for the kick, but she struck out. Starkz lifted Kai up and sent her to the corner painfully, that led to the finish with the hammerlock facebuster and the three.

Winner: Billie Starkz via Pinfall.

Backstage: Isla Dawn, Mina Shirakawa

Isla Dawn’s interview was interrupted by Mina Shirakawa, who challenged her for a match in the future.

Video: Scorpio Sky

Caprice asked Scorpio about his MMA training, and was told about how rigorous MMA was compared to wrestling. Scorpio said that he liked the goal-oriented nature of MMA, with time to work towards a particular date.

Scorpio said that he liked singles matches and tag matches equally.

Caprice asked how Scorpio was able to bridge wrestling and martial arts together. Scorpio answered by saying how big a martial arts fan was at a very young age. He noted that it felt like a natural progression, especially with how wrestling felt like “the land of the giants”.

Caprice asked Scorpio if he had to give himself advice ten years ago about professional wrestling. Scorpio answered by stating that he should’ve bet on himself more, taking a lot more risks and may be things could’ve turned out different.

When asked about SkyFlight, Scorpio said that they needed to stay hungry and not become complacent. He noted that they needed to get better not just at the in-ring stuff, but outside the ring by remaining professional and taking an approach of integrity.

Soleil vs. Mark Davis

No handshake from Davis, as Soleil dodged a kick from him to start. Soleil went for the chops on him and the tornillo, but he got caught for the slam, then a massive Dunkzilla senton for added measure. Chop to the chest from Davis as he punched Soleil, then charged into him with the big running punch. The cover, but only a two. Stomp to the leg of Soleil by Davis as he got him with the bodyslam not long after. Soleil was able to dodge Davis’ senton, and then the running splash in the corner.

Soleil nailed a series of knees and kicks to the face as he slid on the whip and hit Davis with the tornillo body press. The Skywalker mule kick from Soleil only got him a two on Davis. On the top rope, Soleil missed with the splash as Davis got him on the follow through with the gutwrench slam, followded by the basement clothesline. One, two… not yet. Enzuigiri by Davis left Soleil open for the super lariat, but Soleil managed to acrobatically dodge at the last second to hit the dropkick!

On the top rope, High Fly Flow from Soleil on Davis almost got the win, but not quite. Soleil ran at Davis, who destroyed him with a lariat. Gutwrench powerbomb was countered into a rollup pin for another near-fall for Soleil. Kicks to the face, as the cutter was blocked by Davis. Gutwrench knee driver by Davis was soon followed by the piledriver for the three.

Winner: Mark Davis via Pinfall.

ROH World Championship
The Beast Mortos vs. Bandido (c)

Mortos refused the Code of Honor handshake as the bell on our main event sounded.

Collar and elbow tie-up stand off started things off here. The clean break as Bandido dodged a punch from Mortos. Arm wrench by Bandido as Mortos showed off his agility to turn it around on his foe. Bandido escaped Mortos’ grip and pointed the finger guns at him. Mortos showed Bandido what he thought of that and took a bite out of the fingers. Double wrist-lock takeover by Bandido, but Mortos turned it around with an armdrag of his own.

Double wristlock by Mortos was held in tight on Bandido as he dragged the champ to the middle of the ring. Mortos pulled Bandido up and slammed him down on the mat hard. Mortos transitioned to another slam, but Bandido countered it into a hip toss. Midsection kick to Mortos by Bandido as he had him staggered against the ropes. Whip led to a running criss-cross between Mortos and Bandido led to the former crushing his foe with a big pounce for the two-count. Outside the ring, Mortos maintained control by throwing Bandido into the barricade hard, much to the joy of Sammy Guevara. Mortos twisted Bandido’s face with his foot inside the ring as another near-fall went down.

Mortos Biel tossed Bandido across the ring, as he then hit another one in succession. The cover, but Bandido kicked out at two. Midsection punches by Bandido, but Mortos turned it into a casadora and a grapevine into the inside deathlock on the ROH Men’s World Champion. Mortos held on tight on Bandido’s ankle, with the champ desperately reaching the ropes successfully. Mortos had Bandido in a powerbomb position, but couldn’t hit a slam. Chop to the back as Mortos tried again. Bandido reversed it into a sunset flip powerbomb as both champion and challenger were left down and out for the moment.

Bandido got himself back up and hit Mortos with the floating hurricanrana. Mortos outside the ring as Bandido got the full head of speed and a plancha over the top rope took the challenger out. Mortos sent back to the ring with Bandido headed up top. Tornillo press from the top rope by Bandido wasn’t enough for the three. Forearm shots from Bandido, but the popup Samoan drop from Mortos nearly got the victory here. Mortos stood in the corner and stalked Bandido, but he got flattened by the crucifix driver instead. Off the ropes, Bandido nailed the around the world headscissors and the pin for the duke in this title match.

Winner: Bandido via Pinfall to retain the ROH World Championship.
