Shota Umino Says He Was Diagnosed With A Concussion & Amnesia After NJPW G1 Climax 36 Night One Event

As noted before, Shota Umino has been out of action for New Japan Pro Wrestling since this past July’s G1 Climax 2026 Night 1 event in Hoffman Estates, Illinois due to a concussion injury.

Tokyo Sports held a recent interview with Umino. One of the topics discussed included Umino’s thoughts about his concussion injury and the symptoms he was suffering from.

“Before I knew it, I was in a hotel bed, and I don’t even remember how I got back from the arena. Even after returning to Japan, I would vomit in the middle of the night, and the doctor diagnosed me with a concussion and amnesia. Since I had already been dealing with accumulated damage, I think that’s why it became so severe.”

Umino also provided an update on his recovery ahead of his scheduled in-ring return at this Saturday’s NJPW Road to Destruction event in Utsunomiya, Japan.

“I’m 150% healthy. It’s a sport where there’s always the risk of it happening again, but right now, I want to show everyone as soon as possible that I’m back in good health—that I’m staging a comeback from the very back of the pack. I keep telling myself that I’ll get back up no matter how many times I fall.”

Umino also gave his thoughts about his current goal is to regain the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship, which is currently held by Gabe Kidd.
