Video: Last Week’s Show Recap

WWE SmackDown kicks off with clips of last week’s show with Zayn attacking everyone.

In-Ring: Gunther, Sami Zayn, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens

In the arena, out comes Gunther to the ring. Gunther says he has been looking for Sami Zayn all day, he knows that Zayn is in the building. He says the show will not continue before Zayn comes out.

We hear Zayn speaking and he is with the fans. He says he will keep his distance because he has a broken hand. Zayn says it seems like lately everyone is mad at him. Zayn says Gunther feels like Gunther is the victim but Zayn is the victim. He is the one that was robbed, he should still be WWE Champion, the WWE Champion should be a good guy, the last real good guy. He says but instead the WWE Champion is the biggest fraud, hypocrite, biggest piece of trash, CM Punk. The fans chant for CM Punk and Zayn says he is just asking for the opportunity to get back what was stolen from him, his WWE Championship, that’s it. But he has to jump through obstacles. He says Gunther was in the triple threat match to be the number one contender and he wasn’t even included.

Zayn tells Gunther to get real comfortable because that is the future of SmackDown. No number one contender matches, no easy ride for anyone, not for Gunther, Finn Balor or Kevin Owens. If he doesn’t sleep, no one sleeps. If he doesn’t eat, no one eats.

Gunther says he heard enough, if Zayn won’t get in the ring, he will go and drag him into the ring. Gunther jumps the barricade and Zayn says he is not cleared.

Out comes Finn Balor in between the fans next to Zayn. Balor says he is out there for justice and he will take it right now. Balor chases Zayn and Zayn jumps the barricade. Zayn gets at ringside and out comes Kevin Owens. He chases Zayn and Zayn jumps the barricade. He chases him to the back.

Backstage: CM Punk, Nick Aldis, Candice LeRae, Johnny Gargano

We cut to CM Punk who is watching backstage. In comes Aldis and he says they need a number one contender. Punk says he wants to get his hands on Zayn and Punk stops. He sees Johnny Gargano laying down with Candice LeRae. Punk asks if Johnny is still doing this. He tells him to listen. He tells Gargano if he fought his entire career to be laying down or to be Champion of the world. Candice says she has been trying this for month. Punk says inside Gargano lurks Johnny Wrestling, born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Some say Cleveland’s favorite son. Punk tells Gargano, the son of Cleveland takes on CM Punk for the WWE title tonight. Gargano doesn’t move and Punk tells him it won’t work. He begins to walk and LeRae tells Punk to give her a few more minutes. The camera pans and we see Gargano on his feet. He tells Punk “Let’s do it” and Punk says perfect. Punk walks away.

Backstage: Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Tatum Paxley

Back from commercial and Charlotte Flair is with Alexa Bliss. She asks Bliss where she has been, they have a tag team match against Fatal Influence. Bliss tells her there’s a change of plans and in comes Tatum Paxley. She tells Flair that she has always dreamt of tagging with the queen. Bliss says she proved herself last week against Michin, they are still warming up for each other. Paxley says they will tag tonight and their skins will be touching. Flair tells her to take notes, do what she does and not to disappoint her.

Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid) vs. Charlotte Flair & Tatum Paxley

The bell rings and we are under way. Paxley and Reid start the match. Reid with right hands and she throws Paxley into the turnbuckle. She goes for a splash but Paxley with a kick to the face. Paxley goes for a sunset flip but Henley is tagged in. Fallon with a right hand and they double team Paxley.

Back from commercial, Flair is tagged in. Flair climbs the top rope and she lands a cross body onto Reid and Fallon. Flair with chops. Flair to the ropes and she lands a clothesline onto Reid. Flair on the ring apron and she lands a boot onto Fallon. Flair gets in the ring and rolls Reid but Reid kicks out. In comes Fallon but Flair with a fall away slam. Paxley is tagged into the ring. Reid rolls to the outside of the ring and Paxley with a cross body off the top rope onto Fallon and Reid. She throws Reid back into the ring. Paxley goes for the Figure Four but Jayne gets on the ring apron and that distracts Paxley. Bliss grabs Jayne and throws her into the ring post. Reid rolls Paxley but Paxley kicks out. Flair on the ring apron and she hits Reid with a big boot. Paxley with the Cemetery Drive. She goes for the cover and gets the pin.

Winner: Charlotte Flair & Tatum Paxley via Pinfall.

After the match, out come Jade Cargill, Michin and B-Fab. They attack Flair, Bliss and Paxley. Fatal Influence also tell them that the floor is theirs and they leave the ring. B-Fab and Michin lift Paxley and land the BTA. Cargill grabs Flair and she hits her with Jaded.

We see clips of last week where Nikki Bella hit Paige after her match.

Backstage: Nikki Bella, Paige

We cut to the back and Cathy Kelley is with Nikki Bella. She says she took her trust in Paige too far, she failed the Bella brand and she is nothing but a D Grade skank. She says Paige has more passion behind closed doors, Paige is the reason why Brie is hurt and she is the reason why Nikki’s return was ruined. In comes Paige. She says she won’t touch Nikki. She says she realized that Nikki has not liked her since day one, since back in the day because she built her career on hustle, loyalty and respect. And in Mexico City, she better bring it because if not, she will end her career quicker than her last relationship.

Backstage: Nick Aldis, Gunther, Danhausen

The camera cuts to Nick Aldis who is on the phone and in comes Gunther. He tells Aldis that they have to talk. He did some thinking about the decisions Aldis is making. He has to walk out at the start of the show to take care of Zayn because he was put in his decision. There’s the ghost of Finn Balor.

We see Danhausen standing behind them, dusting off the pictures hanging against the wall. Gunther says and the cherry on top, he gives Johnny Gargano a title match against CM Punk. And he figured it out. Aldis stepped in the ring with him and he felt the limelight, he is addicted to it, Nick is doing crazy decision that way the attention is on Aldis. He says he is worried for the business and for Aldis. He needs Aldis to get his stuff together and run this place properly.

Aldis says he appreciates his concern but as far as Gargano is concerned, he can take that up with CM Punk. And for Zayn, he will have to wait because he has some important business to take care of for the Women’s Championship. Aldis walks away. Danhausen puts his arm on Gunther and he calls him Gunner. He tells him not to worry, Danhausen knows exactly how he feels. Gunther grabs him by the arm and tells him not to touch him again. Gunther walks away and Danhausen places a picture of himself on Nick’s desk and it says Employee of the Month.

In-Ring: Nick Aldis, Chelsea Green, The Irresistible Forces, Tiffany Stratton

Back from commercial, Nick Aldis is in the ring with Dr. Woodroof. Aldis says the doctor is out there to discuss the Chelsea Green situation in public. Aldis introduces Chelsea Green to the ring. Out comes Green to the ring. She tells the doctor with all due respect, she doesn’t care what he has to say. They already did this before, she won’t beg, plead and cry, they have played this game. She tells the fans that tonight, they are not getting water works, what they are getting is an extremely pissed off WWE Women’s Champion. She tells Nick that she still is the WWE Women’s Champion. It was Aldis who said that she can be a fighting Champion, not to dare take that away from her. And before he says what she knows he will say, she realizes that she has a bullseye for every single woman in that locker room but she has waited 13 years for this title. If those women think it’s that easy to take the title off of her, let them try because she does not need protecting. She is not concerned about her safety, she is concerned about her legacy.

Aldis says he respects all of that and he respects her. She might not be concerned about her safety but he is because it’s his job. He says it’s not up to him anymore.

The doctor tells Chelsea that she has a fractured orbital bone that has not fully healed but it is healing. And it is his medical opinion that as long as she wears the face mask at all times, she is cleared to compete. She shakes his hand and hugs him.

Out come The Irresistible Forces. Nia says finally, that’s what she was waiting to hear. She says that she thought Chelsea would never shut up, she wants that WWE Championship. She says either Chelsea gives her a match right now or she will break her other orbital bone because they all know that she is made of glass. They get in the ring and Nia takes the mask off of Chelsea’s hand. Tiffany’s music hits and out she runs to the ring. Green leaves the ring. TIffany with a right hand onto Nia and she throws her to the outside of the ring. Legend grabs Stratton but Stratton with the backstabber. Aldis says Nia can get her match against Chelsea Green for the title next week in Mexico City but it seems like Tiffany is ready to wrestle right now. Aldis says it’s Tiffany against Nia right now. Tiffany with a baseball slide onto Legend and Nia with a clothesline onto Stratton.

Nia Jax vs. Tiffany Stratton

Back from commercial and the match is already under way. Tiffany to the ropes and she lands a hurricanrana. Tiffany with a drop kick. She goes for the cover but Nia kicks out. Tiffany to the ropes but Nia grabs her and throws her to the ropes. Nia picks her up and throws her. She goes for the cover but Tiffany kicks out. Nia climbs the second rope but Tiffany trips her up. She goes for the cover but Nia kicks out. Tiffany with right hands. Tiffany to the ropes and she hits Nia with a clothesline. Tiffany to the ropes and a stunner onto Nia. Tiffany goes for the cover but Nia kicks out. Legend gets on the ring apron and Tiffany hits her with a drop kick. Nia with a Samoan drop onto Tiffany. Nia climbs the second rope and she hits her with the Annihilator. She goes for the cover and gets the pin.

Winner: Nia Jax via Pinfall.

After the match, Nia grabs Chelsea’s mask and she tells Chelsea to come and get it. Green gets in the ring and Nia throws the mask to the outside of the ring. Nia and Legend leave the ring.

Backstage: Kevin Owens

We cut to the back and Byron Saxton is with Kevin Owens. He tells Byron he is happy for Gargano but he doesn’t think Punk did it out of the kindness of his heart. He says he knows what Punk is doing. He thinks by having his match against Gargano, he can draw Sami Zayn to the ring, he gets it. He almost wants to say that he respects it but he will never respect anything that CM Punk does. But if Punk is correct and Zayn goes out there, something tells him that he won’t be alone.

Video: Corey Graves, Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton

Back from commercial, Corey Graves is having a sit down interview with Cody Rhodes backstage. He asks Cody how they got there and in comes Randy Orton. He asks Graves if he minds that he squeezes in. He tells Cody not to touch him. He says last week, he got in his face, he said terrible things about his mother and Cody did nothing about it. He asks what kind of a son Cody is, not defending her when he called her trailer park trash. He tells Cody to hit him. He says that he called Cody’s wife trashy, his dog isn’t even dead, he says nothing. Randy says he knows what it is. Cody is such a good guy, he respects the rules so much, he won’t lay a finger on him in honor of his family. It’s the Undisputed WWE Championship. He loves it so much, Cody is an addict. He loves the WWE Championship more than he loves his own family. Orton says people call him sick with the voices but Cody is more sick than anyone.

Cody stands up and he tells Orton that he maybe he is sick, maybe he is aware he is sick, everyone else seems to be. But if Orton is right, that means Sunday, Orton is screwed. Cody walks away.

Backstage: Lil Yachty, Trick Williams, Baron Corbin

We cut to Trick Williams and Lil Yachty. He tells Trick not to trip, he will whoop that Trick all over Atlanta. Trick tells him he just needs him to survive for five minutes and after that, he can get his rematch against Corbin. Lil Yachty says he has been training all week. We see a video of Lil Yachty in the ring drinking water and on his phone. He throws money in the ring, surrounded by women. In the video, Lil Yachty touches an ice water bath and he grabs a bottle of champagne. Back in the locker room, Trick says he thought it was a work out video and Lil Yachty says it is. Trick says he didn’t see him moving, the only thing he saw moving was booty.

In comes Baron Corbin. He says Lil Yachty is a joke but what’s not funny is what he will do to him in Sunday Night’s Main Event. Trick calls Corbin Mr. Clean. He tells him that after Lil Yachty survives, Corbin won’t. Corbin tells Trick that the only chance he has at the title, relies on Lil Yachty. He tells Trick that his hopes and dreams of being Champion are dead.

The Miz & Kit Wilson vs. Bakusai (Shinsuke Nakamura & Kyoki)

The bell rings and we are under way. Kit and Kyoki start the match. Kyoki with a cross body and a clothesline. Kyoki with a drop kick. The Miz is tagged in. Kyoki goes for a cross body but Miz with a chop to the chest. He goes for another chop but Kyoki with chops. Nakamura is tagged in and they double team Miz. He goes for the cover but Miz kicks out. He gets Miz on the second rope and Nakamura with a release German suplex. Nakamura is getting in the ring but Miz kicks the middle rope and Nakamura falls to the outside of the ring.

Back from commercial, Miz with a snapmare onto Nakamura. He grabs Nakamura but Nakamura with right hands. He rolls Miz up but Miz kicks out. Miz grabs Nakamura but Nakamura with a spinning kick to the head. Kyoki and Wilson are tagged in. Kyoki with right hands. Kyoki to the ropes and he lands a hurricanrana. Kyoki throws Wilson into Miz and Miz falls to the outside of the ring. Kyoki with a super kick onto Wilson and he falls to the outside. Kyoki climbs the top rope and he lands a standing leg drop onto Miz and Wilson. He throws Wilson back into the ring. Kyoki goes for the cover but Miz breaks it up. Nakamura runs towards Miz but Miz throws him to the outside of the ring. Kyoki with an arm drag and Nakamura with Kinshasa. Wilson rolls Kyoki up but Kyoki with a kick out. Kyoki with a reverse stunner. He goes for the cover and gets the pin.

Winner: Bakusai via Pinfall.

Out come the MFT’s and they stand at entrance ramp.

We cut to Cathy Kelley who is with Blake Monroe. She tells Cathy that her match is still not suitable, she deserves a grander opponent and entrance. In comes Giulia and she hits her with right hands. They begin to fight through gorilla and towards the ring. Giulia throws Blake into the LED boards. Out come WWE officials to break it up but Giulia with a running knee to the face.

Backstage: Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, Sami Zayn

We cut to Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae backstage. We hear a knocking on a window and it’s Sami Zaym. He hugs Gargano and says he is happy for him. Gargano tells him he knows he wanted the title match tonight but Zayn says it’s justice, this match is for people like them and even if he is not out there with him, he is still out there with him. Zayn tells Gargano that if an opportunity falls into his lap, to take it, not to be like Kevin Owens. Zayn tells Gargano that if he takes the title off Punk, he is first.

The bell rings and we are under way. Punk with a body slam. He goes for another body slam but Gargano lands on his feet. He throws Punk to the ropes but Punk with a shoulder tackle. Punk to the ropes but Gargano with a clothesline. He gets Punk in the corner and climbs the second rope. Gargano with right hands and he gets on the ring apron. Gargano goes for a jumping DDT but Punk grabs him. He lifts Gargano but Gargano with a hurricanrana and Punk falls to the outside of the ring. Gargano with a splash onto Punk on the outside of the ring.

Back from commercial, Punk with a running knee to the face and a clothesline. Punk climbs the top rope but Gargano trips him up. Gargano climbs the second rope but Punk with right hands and Gargano down. Punk with a cross body, Gargano rolls through but Punk kicks out. Gargano with a super kick. He goes for the cover but Punk kicks out. Gargano with right hands but Punk with a kick to the side of the head. He goes for the cover but Gargano kicks out. Gargano is on the ring apron and Punk with right hands. Gargano with a kick to the side of the head. Gargano with a spear into the ring. He goes for the cover but Punk kicks out. Gargano goes for a kick but Punk grabs him and he hits him with a blue thunder bomb. He goes for the cover but Gargano kicks out. Punk lifts Gargano up but Sami Zayn jumps the barricade. Punk to the outside and he hits Zayn with right hands. Zayn gets in the ring and the referee tells him to leave. Zayn leaves the ring. Candice LeRae gets on the ring apron and lands a hurricanrana onto Punk. Gargano with a suicide dive onto Punk. Gargano gets on the ring apron and he lands a jumping DDT. He goes for the cover but Punk kicks out. Zayn grabs the Undisputed WWE Championship but out comes Kevin Owens. He hits Zayn from behind. Owens grabs Zayn but out comes Gunther and he hits Owens with a big boot. Gunther grabs Zayn but out comes Balor and he hits Gunther with the slingblade. Zayn hits Balor with the Undisputed WWE Championship. Gunther runs towards Zayn and he hits him with the title. Zayn hits Owens with the title. In the ring, Punk hits Gargano with the GTS. LeRae gets on the ring apron and distracts the referee. Zayn gets in the ring and he hits Punk with the Undisputed WWE Championship. The referee turns around, Gargano goes for the cover but Punk kicks out. Zayn begins talking to LeRae at ringside but out comes Nick Aldis and WWE officials. Aldis kicks Zayn away from ring side. Gargano grabs Punk but Punk hits Gargano with the GTS. He goes for the cover and gets the pin.

Winner: CM Punk via Pinfall to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Nick Aldis and Sami Zayn argue. Punk grabs a microphone and he tells Zayn that Zayn does not want the title half as bad as much as he wants to break his face for constantly sticking his nose where it doesn’t belong. Punk tells Zayn he has a match next week in Mexico City. Punk’s music hits and SmackDown goes off the air.
