Paramount’s Acquisition Of Warner Bros. Discovery Update – Paramount Reportedly Expected To Close Deal on 10/6

As noted before, Warner Bros Discovery announced this past April that their shareholders had voted in approval of Paramount Skydance’s acquisition deal for the company. The United States Department of Justice had officially approved Paramount’s acquisition deal this past June but several state attorneys generals filed a joint lawsuit and the Writer’s Guild of America also filed a lawsuit this past July against Paramount trying to prevent the acquisition deal from going through. Paramount recently reached a settlement deal with California and the other States Attorney Generals to resolve the lawsuit. This settlement deal was blocked on September 24 after a motion was granted by a group called Block The Merger. WBD is the current media broadcast partner of AEW.

Variety reported that U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin issued a ruling earlier today approving the settlement deal between Paramount and twelve State Attorney Generals over their lawsuit attempting to block the merger.

It was reported that Paramount has now set a date of Tuesday, October 6 as their tentative closing deal for the deal.

It was also reported that Ynon Kreiz will join Paramount on October 5 to become the new co-CEO alongside David Ellison. Kreiz reportedly will oversee the company’s daily operations and combined businesses while Ellison reportedly will lead strategy, creative, and technology functions.

Prior to the hiring, Kreiz worked in Mattel as their CEO from April of 2018 to October of 2026.
