AJ Styles Comments on “I May Have Gotten Rage Baited Into Chair Argument” Involving His Son Avery Styles At GCW Event
As noted before, WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles and indies wrestler Arik Cannon were involved in an online incident on social media this past August over an argument revolving around Cannon’s claims that Styles’ son Avery did not help out with the ring setup at an event for Game Changer Wrestling this past July and Styles stating that his son was only paid to wrestle and not do other work. This dispute originated after Cannon had responded to online comments from Nattie who had praised Avery for being someone who was “paying his dues” for his wrestling career.
A recent episode of the What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes podcast featured AJ as the guest. One of the topics discussed included AJ’s thoughts about the “setting up the chairs” controversey situation involving his son Avery.
“Probably the most ridiculous thing that was ever talked about on X. I may have gotten rage baited into that.”
Host Cody Rhodes responded stating:
“I was standing by. I like to get in there every now and again. That one, I thought, ‘This kid. We’re not doing that.’ Ben Bishop had oddly a really good take on it. I wish it would’ve ended with that. One guy thought he was supposed to, and he was there, another guy wasn’t even on the show. He had a really good ‘let it be.’ Some of us, myself included, couldn’t let it be. I didn’t mean multi-gens didn’t need to do the thing they’re supposed to do. What I meant is there is a level of knowledge and osmosis. My mom and sister, I consider them wrestlers. They’ve never set up a chair in their life. They lived it. You went through your run with your children, you lived by it. A little grace, it all I’m saying. He’s got a target on his back and that’s never going to go away. I don’t regret for one second getting in there, but I didn’t mean second gens don’t need to set up chairs.”
Rhodes’ comments were in reference to a video Bishop posted on social media stating that new wrestlers usually help set up to earn a booking but Avery was already getting booked. Bishop also stated that the demand for Avery to help with things was pointless.

Sinner & Saint Comments on Their Reasons For Their Departure Decision From TNA
As noted before, Sinner & Saint (Judas Icarus & Travis Williams) were granted their releases from TNA Wrestling this July.
A recent episode of Fightful Overbooked’s In The Weeds podcast featured Sinner & Saint as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Icarus and Williams’ thoughts about their reasons for their decision to leave TNA.
Judas Icarus – “We had just been there for a pretty long time and we had been really happy with a lot of the experience that we had gotten and gotten to work with Josh Alexander and Eric Young, I think specifically were big highlights and getting to do that for so long. I think it just got to a point where we really wanted to show that we were tag team wrestlers and that that was our speciality and that’s what we were there for. It felt like… there wasn’t too big of an interest in running with that at the moment and I think — I just felt like we had to prove ourselves and we wanted the chance to do that so I think, yeah, asking for our release was kind of the best route for us, just as far as, yeah, going back out there and being able to prove ourselves again I think. Because that’s kind of how we got there in the first place, right? As tag team wrestlers. I think we wanted to just show ourselves (the) best we could again. Put ourselves out there so I think, yeah, that’s what we’re doing now.”
Travis Williams – “I would just say yeah, give ourselves an opportunity and kind of bet on ourselves, and kind of pick up the ball on our own, which is just something that I think we both knew we needed to do for a little bit. But yeah, everything Judas said — 10-fold — and then also prove ourselves to ourself I think was another thing as well. As much as we needed to prove ourselves to everyone else, I think just being, ‘We can do this. This is something we know we can do and we could prove that ourselves and gotta go test ourselves against the best,’ whether that’s in Germany or whether that’s in England or whether that’s Wales… Check, check and check…”
