As noted before, AEW talent PAC, real name Benjamin Satterley, passed away this past Sunday at the age of 40. Many from within the wrestling world paid tribute to Satterley including TKO Board member and WWE talent Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Johnson’s tribute to Satterley was notable for Johnson mentioning AEW by name and giving his condolences to AEW CEO Tony Khan and everyone else in the company.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that some people within WWE were caught off guard by the wording Johnson used in his tribute to Satterley.
Meltzer reported that Johnson and WWE President Nick Khan are close with each other and he believes that has not changed of late. Meltzer speculated that Johnson might have told Khan what he was going to say ahead of time for his tribute video but it wouldn’t have mattered since he can do whatever he wants.
In regards to others within WWE, Meltzer reported that many were very surprised at the wording Johnson used due to him being on the TKO Board of Directors. Specifically, Johnson mentioning AEW and his praise of the company during his video.
Meltzer believes that Johnson’s praise and acknowledgement of AEW in good terms is not the type of message that WWE wants out but at the same time, no one is going to actually be mad at him for doing the video.
