As noted yesterday here on the website, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is in talks to star in the Michael Bay comedy Pain and Gain. Mark Wahlberg, who appeared with Johnson in The Other Guys is also in talks for the project. Johnson has met with Bay, and his negotiations are said to be further along than Wahlberg’s.
The project will be based on a 1999 article from the Miami New Times, and follow, “a pair of bodybuilders who get mixed up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping that goes horribly awry.” The project has been described as having a similar tone to that of Fargo.
The film will have a $20 million budget and will be produced by Michael Bay and Donald De Line with Paramount Pictures distributing the film.
