Okada was Samoa Joe’s sidekick in TNA from 2010-2011 and returned to NJPW in December before making a challenge for the belt at the Tokyo Dome Show on January 4. Tanahashi held the title since January 2011 Okada ended Hiroshi Tanahashi’s record 13-month reign as champion Sunday at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s The New Beginning pay-per-view event in Osaka, Japan. The show also saw Davey Richards and Rocky Romero regain the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship from Prince Devitt and Ryusuke Taguchi.
