Rogers Media’s purchase of The Score has been approved by the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The Score is the home of WWE programming in Canada (RAW, SmackDown, NXT, Vintage Collection, and WWE Experience), as well as the popular Aftermath TV show & podcast, featuring former-WWE referee Jimmy Korderas. Rogers has announced that the network will be re-branded as part of its Sportsnet family of channels, but has committed to keeping wrestling as part of the lineup, even hinting that it could be expanded, opening the door to the addition of WWE Main Event in the future.
The purchase price is $167 million, as well as $17.1 million as a “tangible benefits package”, which will be used to promote and support amateur sports in Canada.
Interestingly, Rogers bumped Spike TV, the home of TNA, to a more expensive tier a few weeks ago. Start your cries of a conspiracy now…
