Here is a report from last night’s ROH house show in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania:
ROH World champion Jay Briscoe came out before the show started and apologized for his comments on Twitter. Briscoe said the redneck character he plays on TV is different from who he really is and used his real name. He also said that he does not raise his children to grow up knowing hate. He ended by saying that he knows he is responsible for his actions, knows that he represents Ring of Honor, and is sorry for the comments.
ROH COO Joe Koff met Jay in the aisle afterwards, gave him a hug, and appeared proud and satisfied with what Jay said in the ring. I got the feeling many in attendance didn’t even know what he was apologizing for, and the ones who did responded positively to his words.
During Jay’s match later, there were some boos directed at him, but I feel like those doing it just wanted to be loud and different rather than feeling strongly towards what Jay actually said on Twitter.
The American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) beat R.D. Evans & Q.T. Marshall.
Tommaso Ciampa beat Vinny Marseglia.
Matt Taven beat Tadarius Thomas in a Proving Ground match.
Michael Elgin beat A.C.H.
Jimmy Nutts and a wrestler with a peacock gimmick fought to a No Contest when Rhett Titus interfered.
Kevin Steen beat Rhett Titus.
B.J. Whitmer beat Adam Cole and Roderick Strong in a three-way match.
Jimmy Jacobs beat Jay Lethal in a No DQ match. Steve Corino and Kevin Steen got involved in the match. Lethal superkicked Steen when Jacobs ducked, allowing Jacobs to score the pinfall.
ROH tag champions reDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly) beat The Briscoes (ROH champion Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe) to retain the ROH Tag Titles.
After the main event, the American Wolves, Michael Elgin, B.J. Whitmer, and those in the match all brawled in the ring. Whitmer thanked everyone for coming to end the show.
Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino were on commentary. No return date was announced.
