According to an article in The Nashville City Paper, the Nashville Fairgrounds, which has hosted wrestling events for decades, will be shut down in June. In an official statement to the Fairground’s Board of Directors, Mayor Karl F. Dean made the announcement of the closing on Monday. He feeling is that the area could not be redeveloped, and that continuing to run the Fairgrounds as they currently exist would be financially irresponsible. There is a plan to seek a new location to build a new fairgrounds area. Dean has stated that employees of the fairgrounds will be placed in “new job opportunities”. For decades the Fairgrounds has hosted many professional wrestling events, including hosting TNA when the promotion ran their Wednesday night PPV’s. The building was nicknamed “The Asylum” during that time.
With the Nashville Fairgrounds shutting down, there are no current plans for TNA to run a final event there.
