Hey Hey, I'm back once again with your News and Rumors, the People's News and Rumors on this Wednesday, May 24, 2000. To be perfectly honest, my head isn't really into today's report, thus don't expect it to be 5 star quality. Enough BS, let's get to the N & R...
I'm hearing various rumors for a main event for the upcoming WWF PPV, King of the Ring. Two that seem to come up often are The Undertaker and The Rock taking on either Triple H and DX, or Triple H, Vince McMahon, and Shane McMahon. If I had to make an assumption on which match would actually occur, I'd go with Rock and 'Taker taking on HHH and the McMahons. We could also see a Three Way for the World title between the Champion, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, The Rock, and the Dead Man, or even Triple H defending against either Undertaker or Rocky. Whatever happens, the King of the Ring main event should be fun to watch.
While on the topic of King of the Ring, one has to ask the question, "Who'll win the tournament this year?" Right now, I'm going to go with the same pick as several others on the 'net, my Olympic Hero, Kurt Angle. Of course I could be wrong as the PPV is over a month away, but there is something about Kurt that says King of the Ring 2000.
The WWF has announced that its July 9th house show in Bakersfield, California at the Centennial Gardens has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts. If you had tickets for the event, don't worry, as they are fully refundable.
The WWF taped another edition of WWF Smackdown/Heat last night, and as usual it was eventful. I glanced over the results for a second or two (Just looking over the matches), and it seems like both shows have the chance of being great. So if you want Smackdown and Heat "Spoiled", click HERE.
Got to say I'm really enjoying Shane McMahon as a character as a whole lately, as Shane is one of those annoying cocky heels that so many can't stand thus it's amazingly easy for myself as a wrestling fan to enjoy his performance. I love this whole Simba/Giant Killer routine that Shane's going with, but I have to ask the question, haven't there been too many "Giant Killers" in pro wrestling? We've seen Spike Dudley, Rey Mysterio Jr, and now Shane?
And let's not forget Kevin Nash, as he coined himself "Big Sexy, The Giant Killer" back in early 98 after taking out the wrestler currently known as the Big Show at Souled Out of that year. Anyways, I'm straying off the topic but I do have some spoiler news on Big Sexy in the next paragraph, so scroll down if you don't want your Thunder "spoiled."
**** Spoiler Starts Here ****
Kevin Nash, in a three way match between himself, WCW Champion, Jeff Jarrett, and Scott Steiner won the title from Jarrett to claim the third WCW World Title change in about a week at last night's Thunder taping. Should be fun to see how Nash's title reign goes down, as it's the 7th (or 8th if you count Sid being stripped) World title change since Russo and Bischoff came back into power.
**** Spoiler Ends Here ****
WCW taped yet another edition of Thunder/WorldWide, as they continue to lead in to the Great American Bash, Loads of stuff occurred from a name change for one superstar to the continuation of several feuds, so if you can't wait a few hours, click HERE to check out the complete results.
Dave Meltzer reports that everyone's favorite native of Calgary (Dramatic Pause), Alberta, Canada, Lance Storm may very well make an appearance on Monday's Memorial Day Nitro from Salt Lake City, Utah. Now, if Lance does make an appearance, I'll be thrilled as it will continue a trend of some great Memorial Day debuts on Nitro, such as Scott Hall beginning the nWo invasion back in '96.
Don't be too surprised to see Ric Flair on Monday's 'Tro as it's the last Nitro before the Great American Bash Pay Per View, and of course the Nature Boy's appearance will most likely add to the hype of his Retirement match with his son, David Flair at the Bash.
Meltzer is also reporting that Bret "Hitman" Hart and Diamond Dallas Page were filming episodes of the syndicated daytime talk show, Donny and Marie. Should be interesting to watch, and it's great publicity for WCW.
Wrestling's Golden Couple, Chris Candido and Tammy Lynn Sytch have opened up their own online websites, WCWChris.com and WCWTammy.com, so if you're a fan of either of them, check the sites out.
One quick ECW note on "Everyone's Favorite Wrestler", Rob Van Dam... RobVanDam.com reports that RVD will making a special guest appearance on Pamela Anderson Lee's VIP show this fall. Rob will be playing a weapons expert rather than the usual wrestler role that he has played on both City Guys and the X Files. To check out the full story, click the link above.
The wrestling documentary, Beyond the Mat won't be released in Canada, according to Dave Meltzer. Definitely a shame. I guess all those in the Great White North will have to wait until the video tape/DVD is released, like I am.
That does it for today, check out all the updates on the main page, and enjoy the rest of your week. I'll be back sometime this weekend, so until next time, Ciao.
