It's King of the Ring Sunday, and as usual with any PPV Sunday, there is much to talk about. So without further ado, here are today's news and rumors.
As stated yesterday, new angles are expected to develop coming out of tonight's King of the Ring pay per view. There are several rumors that we may eventually see the return of Mick Foley to play the role of a commissioner, most likely appointed by Linda McMahon. This seems like a likely situation, as Foley openly stated upon his retirement from wrestling that he would love to return to the WWF for a non wrestling role any time in the future. It seems like the future could be now. As I always say, if played out right, the WWF can put on some good TV.
When asking anyone who their pick for the King of the Ring tournament is, most feel that Kurt Angle will take the victory and will eventually go on to feud with Triple H over the WWF Heavyweight Title. There is obviously some sort of angle developing with the two, as there have been several segments recently involving Kurt Angle, Stephanie McMahon, and Triple H. There is even a farfetched idea that Triple H may eventually turn face in the very near future. These are all possibilities and I guess we'll have to just wait and see how everything develops in the coming weeks.
DirecTV has put up yet another revealing RAW is WAR preview for this week. Although the DirecTV preview has been way off on more than one occassion, it's always fun to check it out anyway. Thanks to NYY25in99 for sending in this week's preview:
- Hour 1: The new King of the Ring
- Hour 2: The new WWF Champion
The WWF may have a WWF Aggression Volume 2 CD already in the works, according to a few reports. I have also received a few e-mails stating that local radio stations have mentioned the CD to be in development. Thanks to DjStarrScream for sending this in from PIMPROCK.CJB.NET: "WWF Aggression Volume 2 is now in the works and is set to feature appearances from Ice Cube, Busta Rhymes, Ghostface Killah, Jay-Z, Da Brat and High & Mighty among others. The album will feature the groups reworking WWF wrestlers entrance music and music set to be reworked this time around include the wrestling themes of: Tazz, The Hardy Boyz, Eddie Guerrero, Chyna, The Dudley Boyz, Too Cool, The Radicalz and The Acolytes. The album is expected out late this year."
Stone Cold Steve Austin will appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show on July 16. Thanks to Kagan5 for sending this article from the Denver Post: "I found this interesting little tidbit in an article by William Porter in (Tuesday's) Denver Post: 'Like a 20-car pileup on the highway, there are some television events you just can't turn away from - no matter how cringe - worthy they might be. Come July 16, you'll want to turn your TV channel to Oprah, where the Queen of Empowerment hosts 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, the King of the Ring. Oprah will schmooze with the Spandexed slab of man-flesh for an audience of millions. Personally, we'd rather see Austin sit down with Barbara Walters. Not only would we get to see him cry - all Walter interviewees cry - we'd also find out what kind of tree he'd choose to be. Still, the thought of Austin climbing the turn-buckle and administering a Piledriver to Ms. Winfrey is delicious, indeed.' Obviously, Mr. Porter has no idea what a Piledriver is, but what the heck."
The WWF put on yet another show at the World's Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, last night in NYC. You can check out the complete results of the show HERE.
WCW Saturday Night aired its final episode yesterday. The show will now be moved to Saturday mornings at 11:00AM on TBS starting next Saturday, July 1. Instead of being called "WCW Saturday Night," the show will now go by "WCW Saturday Morning." (duh)
If you've been watching WCW programming for the last couple of weeks, you've seen Tank Abbott attack fans at ringside for no apparent reason. However, there may be a point to this angle. On Wednesday's WCW Thunder, we saw Tank Abbott dancing to 3 Count's performance, revealing himself to be a huge 3 Count fan. If you notice, the fans that Tank has attacked thusfar have had either "3 Count Sux" signs or t-shirts. Thanks to Scott for pointing that out.
Formerly WCW's Gorgeous George made an appearance at last night's ECW TV taping in Chicago. She entered the ring, stating she was "too extreme" for WCW and has now come to ECW. She was later caned by Francine, but got her revenge later in the night by delivering a spear to the "Queen of Extreme" Francine. Gorgeous George is definitely a huge pick up by ECW if in fact they have come to some sort of deal. George was obviously popular with the male audience in her WCW days as valet of the Macho Man Randy Savage. Hopefully more details will be released about this situation soon.
Dawn Marie also made her return at last night's show, albeit a short one. She was announced as the special guest referee for the match between Justin Credible and the Sandman, but was also attacked by Francine and carried away.
Here are the quick one-liner results from last night's show. If anyone attended the show and would like to send more detailed results, it would be greatly appreciated.
- Chilly Willy defeated EZ Money
- Simon Diamond & Swinger defeated Nova & Chris Chetti, and Danny Doring & Roadkill
- Kid Kash defeated Bill Wiles
- Steve Corino defeated Mikey Whipwreck
- Tajiri defeated Jerry Lynn
- Referees H.C. Loc & Nick Bell defeated Angel and DeVito
- Justin Credible defeated Sandman
- Rob Van Dam defeated Guido

Pro Wrestling was a category on Friday's episode of Jeopardy. Thanks to Doggydogg23 for sending this in: "On Friday, June 23, Jeopardy had a category of Pro Wrestling. A few questions were "He got his name when his wife suggested to him to drink his tea before it becomes this," the answer being Stone Cold, and "Captain Lou Albano played this girls father in the music video Girls Just Want To Have Fun," and the answer was of course Cindy Lauper. The contestants didn't get to the $1,000 question."
Thanks to Jeff "mayhem2go" Rose for sending this in: "On Saturday, July 15th from 12:00p.m. to 2:00p.m. at Frank and Sons collectable show in Walnut, Ca. Super Nova and Dawn Marie will be signing autographs. With the success of the Blue Meanie/Jasmine St. Claire session last month this one should be great. Also I spoke with XPW wrestling color guy Larry Rivera about a possible XPW run in on the ECW pay per view and he said that 'it's a rumor.. nothing more.' But, he also stated that he will be in the front row for the event."
And a final reminder, we'll be providing live King of the Ring coverage tonight starting at 8:00PM EST up until the very end of the pay per view. I'll be posting several live, match by match, interview by interview, segment by segment (you get the point) updates throughout the night, as they happen. Also, the final results of our King of the Ring Fantasy Tournament, where the finals are Chris Jericho vs. Chris Benoit will be posted later tonight, shortly after the King of the Ring PPV ends. That wraps it up for today's report. Until next time, enjoy King of the Ring.
