Hey, hey, hey. Welcome (back) to TPWW.net for the Thursday edition of the News and Rumors/N&R;/Rumors/News/Today's News/News Update/what the hell is my problem? Anyway, without further making an idiot of myself, here are today's news and rumors...
The WWF filed a lawsuit today against L. Brent Bozell III and the Parents Television Council, citing defamation and product disparagement as two main complaints. The WWF released a news release about the lawsuit today. The following is an excerpt from the release: "In its complaint, filed by the law firm of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, WWFE seeks relief and damages from a systematic campaign of slanderous and tortious activities devised and orchestrated by right-wing zealot L. Brent Bozell III against WWFE. The 10-count filing states that Bozell and other defendants have used a pattern of "unlawful threats, intimidation, coercion, deception and flat-out lies" to conspire to damage WWFE and interfere with WWFE's existing and prospective contracts with sponsors, advertisers, licensees and retailers." All I can really say is that it was only a matter of time before the WWF became fed up with Bozell and his extremist following. For lots more information on the situation, click HERE.
You can expect the following matches on tonight's edition of WWF Smackdown!:
- Eddie Guerrero vs. Billy G - IC Title
- Edge & Christian vs. The Hardys
- Chris Benoit vs. Undertaker vs. Kane vs. Chris Jericho (#1 Contendors Match)
- Right to Censor vs. Dudley Boyz
- T&A; vs. Crash & Steve Blackman
- Steve Austin & The Rock vs. Triple H & Rikishi
Two matches have been officially confirmed for WWF Survivor Series on Sunday, November 19. One match will feature Stone Cold Steve Austin taking on Triple H, while the other will feature The Rock taking on Rikishi.
Triple H has been added to the injured list, according to Shawn Stidham via Dave Scherer. Triple H has reportedly been taken off this weekend's house shows due to a cyanic nerve problem in his back. Triple H has been told to simply rest this weekend, but should be back on TV this Monday on Raw.
Rikishi recently suffered a broken nose during a WWF house show on Sunday in Lubbock, Texas in the match between himself and Val Venis taking on Steve Austin and Chris Jericho.
Happy Birthday wishes go out to Chris Jericho, who turns 30 today. He has added a special commentary on his website talking about turning 30 among several other things. You can check it out at ChrisJericho.com.
WCW Nitro will feature a pretty interesting "Lethal Lottery" tag team tournament on Monday's show. The tournament will feature four randomly selected teams, who will face off against each other in a tournament. The winning team of the tournament will then face off against each other (teammate vs. teammate) on Thunder and the winner of that match would receive a WCW World title shot on the next WCW Nitro.
WCW workers left yesterday to England to prepare for the WCW-UK tour this weekend. Nitro will be taped tomorrow night in London, England. There will then be a house show on Saturday in New Castle, then Thunder will be taped on Sunday in Manchester. Afterwards, on Monday the 13th, WCW will hold a house show in Birmingham, England, then will travel to Obernhausen, Germany on Thursday the 16th for a German PPV. On Monday the 20th, WCW wrestlers will travel back to Augusta, Georgia to tape both Nitro and Thunder. Pretty tough schedule coming for WCW wrestlers.
WCW's "Big T," real name Tony Norris and aka Ahmed Johnson has been released by WCW, according to WCW Live. Norris worked a program earlier this year to team with Stevie Ray against Booker T with "Harlem Heat 2000."
The Great Muta is also done with WCW, according to WCW Live. His former "Dark Carnival" teammate, The Demon, is still with WCW, but isn't expected to return anytime soon.
Rowdy Roddy Piper was reportedly planning on running for Prime Minister of Canada as a publicity stunt, but was talked out of it. Now THAT would have been interesting.
WCW Thunder scored a 2.0 rating for last night's show, according to Dave Scherer, down from last week's 2.1.
According to various reports, ECW is planning something major at this Saturday's ECW TV Taping in Poughkeepsie, New York, which will have a major effect on ECW's next PPV, Massacre on 34th Street on December 3rd in Manhattan, New York. Both myself and Ry will be attending that show and we're both obviously pumped up about it. It seems that each time ECW comes to the New York City area, something big goes down, and this coming PPV should be no different.
I went scouring for a WWF No Mercy and Smackdown! 2 video game release date today and found out the following... Out of four stores visited, all stated that No Mercy would be released on November 14th. Smackdown! 2, on the other hand, may have been delayed to at least November 20. Out of the four stores, two stated November 16, one stated November 20, and the other stated November 21. I've also heard from other places that Smackdown 2 has been delayed for a few days. So to reiterate, it appears that WWF No Mercy for the Nintendo 64 will be released this Tuesday, while Smackdown 2 for the Sony Playstation may have been delayed until the next Monday or Tuesday.
And finally, on a completely unrelated and pointless note, while driving today, I saw a car that looked exactly like THIS driving by at about 15 MPH... Yeah, I know.
That about wraps it up for today's report. As I type this, George Bush leads Al Gore by ONLY 225 VOTES in Florida - the state that will decide our next president. Bush has 2,909,799 votes, Gore has 2,909,574. All I can say is WOW. Either way, I was going for Ralph Nader. Until next time...
