Hey readers and welcome back to The People's Wrestling Website, also known to many as TPWW.net, on this Tuesday afternoon. A lot of news out there from what could be an amazing main event for this year's WWF Armageddon PPV to reaction to both Raw and Nitro, plus tentative matches for both ECW Massacre on 34th Street (which yours truly will be attending) and WCW Starrcade. So without further ado, let's get to the news.
If you haven't heard already, Scott Hall is in trouble with the law again, as various sources have reported that Hall was busted for DUI (Driving Under the Influence) over the weekend. Hall's blood alcohol level was apparently as high as .26, which is way over the Florida limit of .08. With this being said, Scott's possible appearance at the ECW Massacre PPV and his wrestling career is up in the air, which is truly a shame for one of the greatest wrestlers to never win a world title.
Speaking of ECW, Dave Meltzer reports that Paul Heyman is allowing almost everyone on the ECW roster aside from a select few (ECW Champion Steve Corino, ECW TV Champion Rhino, Tajiri, Super Crazy, and Justin Credible) to negotiate with other wrestling promotions and has given the WWF's Jim Ross the option to negotiate with top ECW stars, whose names are not on Heyman's shortlist.
In some more depressing ECW news, as previously reported, ECW has reportedly canceled its Texas tour of Dallas and Houston due to ECW stars Corino, Tajiri, Mikey Whipwreck, and the Sandman wrestling a show in the Dallas Area for the XSE promotion, which has a show on December 7 right before the ECW Texas Tour. But according to an Internet press release from the XSE promotion, XSE is trying to attempt to help ECW salvage the Texas tour.
Here's the current card for Sunday's ECW PPV "Massacre on 34th Street," which will emanate from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, New York:
- ECW World Title - Steve Corino (Champion) vs. Justin Credible vs. Jerry Lynn
- ECW TV Title - Rhino (Champion) vs. Little Spike Dudley
- ECW Tag titles (If Doring and Roadkill lose, they must split up) The FBI vs. Danny Doring and Roadkill
- Extreme Grudge Match - Tommy Dreamer vs. CW Anderson
- Mystery Tag Partner Match - Tajiri and Mikey Whipwreck vs. Super Crazy and a mystery partner
Moving on to some WCW news today, after all the hype from last night, it turns out that the main event of WCW's equivalent to Wrestlemania, Starrcade will feature the newly crowned WCW World Champion, Scott Steiner taking on Sid. Definitely a disappointment in my opinion as I feel that this Sid/Steiner match won't draw at all and Starrcade, which has been WCW's showcase event will go down as just another bad PPV instead of a blockbuster show that WCW needs to get out of its funk.
Interestingly enough, the last time Sid was supposed to main event a Starrcade, which I believe was in 1993 against Vader, Sid had an incident with Arn Anderson in Europe that saw Sid stab Anderson with scissors, which of course is the origin of the Scissors joke that has followed Sid to this day. I'm not saying that history will repeat itself, but I feel that's an interesting tidbit to bring up.
Bad news for the fans of former WCW champion, Booker T as Booker will be undergoing surgery on his injured knee and has suffered a cracked sternum at the hands of Scott Steiner at Mayhem. So for all you Booker T marks, don't look for your favorite wrestler to be on TV for quite a while.
I'm not the biggest Goldberg fan, but whatever the case, I really don't think the Goldberg/Luger rematch at Starrcade is such a smart move, as Bill is most definitely the most over performer in the company and a feud with Lex Luger for two months accounting for two PPV matches isn't the best way to extend his streak. Personally, since Russo's been off TV for a good two months now, I really think this whole "continue the streak or Goldberg's fired" act has grown tiresome, and unless Russo returns or something dynamic happens, Goldberg won't be seeing a world title shot until at least the Spring of 2001.
Speaking of Goldberg, I recently had the chance to read a few chapters in his autobiography "I'm Next" and I must say, I'm impressed. Goldberg comes as a genuine and likable guy thrown in a very unlikely situation after his football career came to an end. The book makes the true claim that Bill is "America's Most Unlikely Superhero." It's a good read, and if you're a fan of Goldberg or just a fan of wrestling, I'm sure you'll like it. Dave Scherer reports due to problems in negotiating, the interpromotional angle between WCW and Battledome has come to an end.
Expect Hacksaw Jim Duggan to split from Team Canada in the coming weeks, according to Dave Meltzer, as it seems that Jim is extremely unhappy with his current standing in the company.
In news that brought a tear to my eye, various sources report that WCW will be releasing Torrie Wilson in the next week or so after her 90 day cycle completes on December 5th. The reason being, Torrie currently makes $250,000 a year, while WCW wants to cut it down to around $52,000. It seems that WCW is trying to work out some sort of per appearance deal with Wilson, but it seems due to the extremity of the pay cut, tomorrow's Thunder may be the last we've seen of the lovely Torrie Wilson on WCW TV.
Speaking of Torrie and all the rest of the gorgeous women of wrestling, we here at TPWW.net have launched an amazing Women Of Wrestling gallery where you can see amazing pictures of several of the beautiful women that are involved in the Sports Entertainment business. I know this sounds like a cheap plug, and it is, but I think that you'll enjoy it, so check it out by clicking HERE.
Here's the spoiler free Thunder Card for tomorrow night's broadcast:
- The Jung Dragons vs. Team Canada (Storm and Skipper)
- Norman Smiley vs. Lex Luger
- Crowbar vs. David Flair
- WCW US Champion, General Rection vs. The Franchise, Shane Douglas
- Jeff Jarrett and the Harris Boys vs. The Filthy Animals
- Sergeant AWAL vs. Bam Bam Bigelow
- WCW Champion, Scott Steiner vs. Buff Bagwell
Here's the tentative Starrcade card, which will take place on Sunday, December 19th from the MCI Center in our nation's capital, Washington DC:
- WCW World Title - Scott Steiner (Champion) vs. Sid
- The Streak's on the Line - Goldberg vs. Lex Luger
- WCW Tag Team Titles - Dallas Page and Kevin Nash (Champions) vs. The Perfect Event vs. Kronik
- "That 70's Guy" Mike Awesome vs. Bam Bam Bigelow
- Ernest "The Cat" Miller vs. Lance Storm
- Jeff Jarrett vs. Konnan
In some amazing WWF news for today, according to Dave Meltzer, the main event for the Armageddon Pay Per View may truly be Armageddon as the WWF title may be on the line in a Hell in the Cell as Kurt Angle defends against The Rock, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rikishi, and the Undertaker. The basic rules of this match up - if it happens - is first pinfall wins thus meaning that our Olympic Hero, Kurt Angle may lose the title without getting pinned... again. Triple H might pin Steve Austin to become the champion or even Austin pinning the American Badass, the Undertaker for the strap. If this happens, it'll definitely be a wild scene, and the closest to a possible "Armageddon" in the WWF.
Another match tentatively scheduled for Armageddon is "The One" Billy Gunn defending his WWF Intercontinental title against the leader of the Radicals, the Rabid Wolverine, Chris Benoit. Could be an excellent match like any match up with Benoit in it, as Chris is arguably the best wrestler in the world today.
You can also expect Kane to take on Y2J, Chris Jericho, The Hardys to go up against the Radicals, some sort of continuation to the T&A;/Hollys feud, and K-Kwik and the Road Dogg going up against the RTC for the tag straps. But of course, these matches are just my own speculation judging from the way current angles are being played out.
Dave Meltzer reports that there is a possibility that the Governor of Minnesota, Jesse "The Body" Ventura will be making some sort of appearance on Smackdown as it's coming from the Governor's home state of Minnesota from the Target Center in Minneapolis. If this is true, expect it to have something to deal with Jesse's commentating position with the XFL.
Thanks to Wink for the following report on what happened after Raw: "After Raw went off the air, Stone Cold got up, threw HHH off the ropes and stunned him. He went out of the ring to get a chair but HHH bailed with Steph. Austin was yelling obscenities like mad and kept giving everyone the "Stone Cold salute." After HHH left, Austin drank like 10 beers and the highlight was when we grabbed Angle's WWF title, stood up on the announcer's table and pointed at it yelling, 'I'll have this soon again.' He grabbed two more beers and drank them at the top of the ramp to end the show."
Now, I'm guessing you're wondering where the Monday ratings are, since they are usually a given in the Tuesday News and Rumor report but due to the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend, ratings are delayed but we'll have them ASAP tomorrow here at TPWW.
Well, that does it for today. If you're ordering or attending the Massacre on 34th PPV on Sunday, don't be shocked if you catch a glimpse of me, as I'll be at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Sunday with the always handy TPWW.net sign. So until next time, ciao...
