Hello, everyone and welcome to The People's Wrestling Website, TPWW.net for the Sunday, pre-Armageddon edition of the news and rumors. Things are looking up for the world of pro wrestling today with a potentially great PPV tonight in WWF Armageddon. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for my week, since my car was basically destroyed on Friday in a mishap involving an icy hill, a telephone pole, and a huge Dodge Ram van rear-ending me. Nonetheless, I'm scratch free and here to deliver today's news and rumors. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for my car. By the way, here's a tip for when driving down an icy hill... don't drive down icy hills. Anyway, here are today's news and rumors.
Tickets went on sale yesterday for the next WWF UK PPV, Insurrextion on May 5, 2001 from Earl's Court in London, England. And to no one's surprise, tickets rapidly sold out in only 30-60 minutes, leaving thousands of disappointed fans out in the cold. Our own Rob Harvey was at the scene yesterday, and sent this report: "I got to Earl's Court yesterday morning at 8:00 (an hour before tickets went on sale) and after walking into the main gate, I saw a huge line of people waiting for the ticket office to open. If I had to guess, I'd say there was about 5,000 people there. I quickly U-turned and went home because there was no way I was waiting in that line but from what I understand, over 3/4 of the tickets available were sold on the night before over the internet (and no doubts somebody pocketed a few!). This caused near riots at Earl's Court's box office as we were told on the phones that you could only get tickets at the box office which led to many people travelling over 250 miles from North of England/Scotland to wait in line only to be told there were no tickets left only 30 minutes after the box office opening. The incident has also made a few of the national papers today."
The Holly "cousins," Crash, Hardcore, and Molly Holly will host WWF Raw tomorrow night at WWF New York in Times Square. The WWF is inviting all fans to come watch Raw from WWF New York on the huge 30 foot screen and enjoy a great meal at the same time.
It is rumored that the Rock has purchased a part of "Bessey Motorsports," a part of NASCAR racing. Robert Hesselbein sent the following: "I just came across this and thought you would like to know. On the top NASCAR rumor web site, www.jayski.com, this was writen... 'Bessey Motorsports has been sold to BGN driver Hermie Sadler and WWF star 'The Rock'. Supposedly Bessey is going to run at least Daytona in the BGN and then go from there as he has no sponsor (not sure if Bessey is the BGN owner or it is part of Sadler's Cup team). No sponsor known for Sadler's Cup team and supposedly Jim Long will be the crew chief(12-7-2000). World Wrestling Federation Superstar, 'The Rock', will make a major NASCAR Winston Cup announcement on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at 11:00am/et. The press conference will also be open to a limited amount of general public attendees. Where: Jillian's at Concord Mills Mall, 8111 Concord Mills Blvd., Concord, North Carolina 28027. RSVP: To confirm your attendance and to reserve your complementary WWF wrestling ticket, please contact Brett Griffin at 704-799-2114.(Cox Marketing)(12-8-2000)" Thanks to Nascar3595 and Jason D. for sending similar stories.
As reported yesterday by Mike, Nitro will air on Tuesday night at 8PM EST this week instead of its normal Monday timeslot to make way for a "David Copperfield" special on TNT. However, that's not all... according to Blake Wolfson, TNT's TV listings schedule does not list Nitro airing on Monday, December 25 or Monday, January 1. On Christmas Day, TNT will air the movie "Scrooged" instead of Nitro, and Nitro also will not air on Monday, January 1. However, WCW Thunder is still expected to air on TBS on 12/27 and 1/3, meaning the WCW TV taping scheduled for December 22 will be for two episodes of WCW Thunder.
Mark Madden has reportedly been suspended by WCW, with pay, for recent comments against Diamond Dallas Page posted on Madden's website. Madden reportedly received a phone call from Diamond Dallas Page's wife, Kimberly regarding Madden's comments on WCW television, but Madden apparently took offense and publically stated that he would continue to bash DDP. For this, Madden will not be on this week's shows.
The Great II from Chennai, India sent along the following: "Just wanted to let you know that Turner Classic Movies will air its last episode of Nitro on Dec. 30th. In related news, another local channel called Star World has been showing Nitro and Thunder for the last few weeks on a three week delay, just like the WWF's shows here in India."
WCW's Stacy "Miss Hancock" Keibler and Midajah will play the role of mud wrestlers in an upcoming Disney movie, "Bubble Boy," according to Buck Woodward. Stacy and Midajah will film their scenes in Los Angeles on December 20th. As of now, no scheduled release date for the film has been announced.
Goldberg will appear on next week's Hanukah edition of Comedy Central's "The Man Show." Goldberg filmed the episode in May of this year, and will reportedly spear Santa Clause after getting drunk on the show. The show airs on Sunday, December 17 at 10:00 PM EST on Comedy Central. In an interesting tidbit, it goes head to head with WCW's PPV, Starrcade, also on December 17.
USA Network's FarmClub.com once again aired their "ECW Video of the Week" last night, which featured the Tajiri and Mikey/Super Crazy vs. FBI match from ECW's November to Remember PPV last month. However, this time, the ECW video aired at the beginning of the show and was three minutes long, rather than last week's one minute, end of the show clip. Definitely a good situation for ECW there, and hopefully something ultimately good comes of it.
One of my favorites, Rowdy Roddy Piper has opened an official website, which can be visited at RoddyRaw.com.
Be sure to join us tonight at 8:00PM EST for LIVE match by match coverage of the WWF's Armageddon PPV, featuring a Hell in a Cell match for the WWF title. For more info, click HERE.
That just about wraps it up for today's report. As you have probably noticed, long time TPWW staffer Mike Christopher has made his return to TPWW, which should hopefully and probably mean a return to daily news and rumor updates here at TPWW, among other advances to the site. As always, thanks for reading, and I must now go mourn my car's destruction. Until next time, later.
