Ho Ho Ho, as the Holiday Season approaches welcome to the People's Wrestling Website for the December 12th edition of the news and rumors. We're coming off another Monday night with the WWF serving up another Raw while we were Nitro-less so to speak as TNT choose to air a remake of the Charles Dickens Classic Novel, David Copperfield. There are a few interesting news bits today, so let's get to the N&R...;
I thought Raw was decent last night coming off of the Armageddon Pay Per View, but if there's one problem with the show, it would be that there wasn't enough wrestling. Rather, the show centered on the question of whether or not Foley would resign from his position as Commissioner, with several of the World Wrestling Federation superstars out of action due to "injuries."
I guess I'll try to address some of those injuries in today's report starting with in my opinion, the wrestler of the year, Triple H. According to Dave Meltzer, Hunter does have a herniated disc in his lower back, as mentioned on Raw, but contrary to what has been said on TV, The Game is not out of action. Expect Triple H to be back on TV anytime now, maybe even at the Smackdown tapings tonight to continue his feud with Steve Austin.
On Rikishi, it's not the ruptured spleen that JR mentioned on Raw that kept him off TV last night, rather a bad knee and the selling of the "devasting" bump that he took at the hands of the Undertaker at Armageddon during the Hell in the Cell.
Moving on, for all of you Jericholics wondering where Y2J was last night, don't worry as Chris Jericho wasn't really injured from his Last Man Standing match at Armageddon against Kane. It was once again just the WWF attempting to sell how dangerous Chris's match at the PPV was, and of course attempt to build Vince McMahon's case for Foley's resignation.
Finally, moving on to Mick Foley, even though he's not injured, according to Dave Meltzer expect him to take some time off of WWF television to at least the beginning of the new year as Foley's wife, Collette is expecting the couple's third child in the upcoming weeks. I would expect that with Foley gone, Vince McMahon would come back in power in the next couple of weeks to build up to the eventual final battle for power between Vince and Mick.
I've got to hand it to the WWF to the job that they've done with Dean Malenko in the last couple of weeks, as the WWF furthered Dean-O's angle with Lita last night with Malenko laying a lip lock on the former Women's Champion. Great to see that the WWF is continuing this entertaining angle.
With Armageddon finished, the WWF gears up for the Royal Rumble which will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 21st. From the looks of it, expect the Rock to take on - and probably take the strap from - Kurt Angle, and maybe even the Dudleys taking on Edge and Christian for the tag titles. I'm guessing the Royal Rumble will either be taken by either Stone Cold Steve Austin or Triple H, with Austin being the odds on favorite, as the WWF is seemingly building for a Steve Austin vs. Rock main event for Wrestlemania X-Seven.
For those wondering how the WWF did in the ratings unopposed last night, according to Dave Scherer, Raw did a 5.8 with hours of 5.7 and 5.8, and an overrun of 6.1. Interestingly enough, this was Raw's highest rating on The National Network as Raw has consistently been doing a 5.0 in recent weeks. If you're wondering how David Copperfield over on TNT did, it scored a 1.8 in comparison to last week's Nitro rating of 2.5.
According to the Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter, if Scott Hall did appear at the Massacre on 34th Street PPV back on December 3rd, he would have most likely have done a run in during the Three Way Dance Main Event between Corino, Credible, and Lynn. The plan being Hall would cost his "Clique Member" Credible the ECW title thus setting up a match up between Justin Credible and Scott Hall at Guilty as Charged, ECW's next PPV.
Another interesting note comes on the topic of one of my personal favorites, Tajiri. The Torch reports that if Tajiri does have any interest in leaving ECW, the WWF would be interested in picking him up. That definitely sounds like a given as Tajiri is not only a great worker, but is one of the most over babyfaces in ECW without speaking more than one or two words of English in recent memory.
For all you "perverts" out there, ECWWrestling.com, has updated its famed Pervert Pics with the model being ECW's own, Jasmin St. Claire. If you have any interest, click HERE.
Here's the WCW Nitro card for tonight:
- The Cat and Ms. Jones vs. Lance Storm and Major Gunns
- Norman Smiley vs. Meng in a Hardcore Match
- The Perfect Event vs. The Insiders vs. Jindrak and O'Haire
- Filthy Animals vs. The Harris Twins and Jeff Jarrett
- Goldberg vs. Sergeant Parker
- Shane Douglas vs. Corporal Cajun
- Scott Steiner vs. AWOL for the WCW Title
In an interesting little note, tomorrow's Thunder will feature an angle that sees the challenger for the WCW title at Starrcade, Sid not being able to find the arena while driving in his car. "Great" way to build up the face trying to take the title from the monster heel that is WCW's World Champion, Scotty Steiner.
Well, that does it for today... So until next time, Later.
