Hey yo. Thanks for stopping by on this cold winter day (here in New York) and as always, welcome to TPWW.net, The People's Wrestling Website. To be completely honest and blunt, I'm not expecting today's report to be such a spectacular one due to the simple fact that wrestling news has seemingly slowed down today. Nonetheless, there are a few notes of interest to discuss, so without further delay, here are today's news and rumors.
As they do every Tuesday night, the WWF taped its weekly editions of WWF Smackdown and WWF Heat last night from Charlotte, North Carolina. From what I heard, the show seems to be interesting, once again furthering the whole McMahon family soap opera angle, among other things. Without getting too much into detail, if you'd like to check out the complete results of last night's WWF tapings, simply click HERE. Thanks, as always, to TPWW's own Mike E. for the live match by match report.
In an interesting note, the next two editions of WWF Heat on MTV, which air on December 24 (Christmas Eve) and December 31 (New Year's Eve), will NOT be live from WWF New York. Instead, the show will go back to its "old school" format without the WWF New York segments.
On the subject of wrestling programming during the holiday season, although WCW Nitro will not air for the next two weeks, WWF fans have nothing to fear, as WWF programming timeslots will not be affected. However, since next week's Raw falls on Christmas, the WWF will tape Raw this Friday night from Chattanooga, Tennessee, but will air it on its normal Monday time. Smackdown will also be taped this Saturday from Nashville, Tennesee, and will air on Thursday night as usual. The situation is similar for the next week as well, since Raw will also fall on New Year's Day. That week as well, Raw will be taped on Friday, while Smackdown will be taped on Saturday.
Tazz will be at WWF New York tomorrow night during the broadcast of WWF Smackdown.
THQ's latest Sony PlayStation title, "WWF Smackdown! 2: Know Your Role" has become the fastest selling video game of all time in the United Kingdom, selling over 150,000 copies in its first week, according to John Feltham.
The Road Dogg has apparently been suspended by the WWF due to showing up at last night's WWF Smackdown tapings in no shape to work. The WWF website posted this just shortly after I typed this report: "The Road Dogg has been suspended indefinitely for undisclosed reasons, according to Jim Ross, senior vice president for talent relations." As some may remember, Road Dogg was sent home some time last year after a situation with substance abuse. Hopefully the situation hasn't repeated itself this time. Road Dogg's partner, K-Kwik, wrestled a singles match at the Sunday Night Heat tapings for those who are wondering. We hope to have more on this situation soon.
As has been mentioned several times in WWF programming, The Rock has been listed as one of People Magazine's "25 Most Intriguing People of 2000."
The following is the tentative card for WCW's next PPV, "WCW Sin," according to Dave Meltzer:
- Scott Steiner vs. Rick Steiner vs. Jeff Jarrett - WCW Title
- Nash & DDP vs. Two Natural Born Thrillers - Tag Titles
- Goldberg and Dewayne Bruce vs. Lex Luger & Buff Bagwell
- General Rection vs. Shane Douglas - US Title
- Team Canada vs. Filthy Animals
- Terry Funk vs. Crowbar - Hardcore Title
- Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs. Shane Helms - Cruiserweight Title
The return of Glacier, which WCW has been hyping for quite a while now, should come around early January, according to WCW Live. It has also been mentioned that when he does make his return, he will be presented differently than last time.
You can expect the following matches for tonight's edition of WCW Thunder:
- Chavo Guerrero vs. Jaime Knoble - Cruiserweight Title
- Tag Team Battle Royal - For Number One Contendorship
- Konnan vs. Elix Skipper
- Crowbar vs. Bam Bam Bigelow
- Goldberg vs. Norman Smiley
- Misfits in Action vs. Shane Douglas & Kronik
- Scott Steiner vs. The Cat - WCW World Title
From what I've heard, Thunder seems to be a pretty big show tonight with several important happenings.
MTV will air a special on backyard wrestling tonight at 1:00 AM EST and will replay it tomorrow at 8:30 PM EST. The documentary will be entitled "True Life: I'm a Backyard Wrestler." The description is as follows, courtesy of TV Guide: "Spotlighted: the antics of backyard wrestlers, kids and young adults who re-create the mayhem of professional wrestling with their friends."
And finally, Chris42183 sent along this interesting little tidbit that I found pretty humorous: "Jim Ross said that Vince McMahon was married to Linda McMahon for 34 years if I remember correctly. Also, I thought that Vince said his first date with Linda was in a '69 Chevy. If they have been married for 34 years, how could their first date be in a car that is only 31 years old?"
That just about wraps it up for today's report. Until next time...
