Walking Tall Opens; How Does Its Friday Box Office Take Stack Up

The Rock's latest vehicle, Walking Tall, opened in an estimated 2,836 theatres yesterday. Coming off the rather lackluster performance of The Rundown, The Rock had the chance to redeem himself and his star power with this film. Of course, due to a very tough release weekend (and it only gets worse in the coming weeks), high expectations were not present with this film.

The Friday estimates reveal that the movie took home $5,540,000. Based on analysis and projection, that should yield a $13-20 million weekend, and be somewhere in the ballpark, albeit likely a little below, the first weekend of The Rundown.

Hellboy, which ironically probably got more promotion during WWE programming, will easily win the weekend, coming off a $8,780,000 opening day. In third is the new animated film, Home On The Range, which grabbed $4,030,000 on Friday. The Prince And Me, the other new wide release, was good for fifth with $3,510,000.
