The following rumor comes from Jason Powell and the Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter:
Despite what was reported today, with regards to Austin's contract remaining at a standstill, conflicting rumors are surfacing that the Austin situation is very close to being worked out, and that one compromise that was reached will involve Austin working a lighter WWE schedule, to allow him to focus on other projects.
Again, since more sources are backing up the first report, that negotiations have not progressed, that might be more accurate at this time, although rumors are persisting that the resolution mentioned above is true. Apparently, WWE feels that Austin will miss the ego trip that comes from working a full TV schedule, while Austin feels this will allow him to focus on Hollywood projects, and then come back stronger and hotter than ever.
One skeptical source has been cited with feelings that since no one really wants to work in the months after WrestleMania, Austin's contract issue was conveniently brought up right after the PPV, to give Austin time off.
Again, before controversy erupts over this story, various sources are reporting conflicting views. The initial story that many are going by is that WWE and Austin are at a standstill, but the newest rumor is that the dispute is all but worked out. We'll be sure to keep you posted.
