Thanks to Richard Trionfo for sending in the following:
This week on Between the Ropes, Sting joined Fritz, Dickerman, and Vito DeNucci to talk about his new move "Sting: Moment of Truth, his wrestling career, and what Sting might be doing in the future in the ring.
Sting started off talking about the DVD, which will be released on October 12th and he said that it is his life in wrestling and how his life changed when finding the lord. The movie is Steve Borden, not just Sting. It will have old and new wrestling footage. Sting said that watching some of the footage was scary because he was dealing with bad things that happened to him. He said that the actor who was portraying 'Young Sting' looked just like him as well as 'Young Jim Hellwig'.
Sting was asked about Tully Blanchard and his faith, and Tully's comments that he had no regrets for what he did. Sting said that there were some choices that he wishes he did not make, but he knows that he was molded into the person that God wanted him to be. He feels that what he did in the past can help others when they present him with their problems.
Sting was asked about what he is planning to do in the wrestling world. He said that he is not looking to return to wrestling right now, but the door is not closed. The gap might be getting closer. He did not rule out appearing in the WWE at some time. He talked about the rumors of him appearing at Wrestlemania XX, and he is amazed at the response that he gets because it has been a while since he wrestled Ric Flair on the last WCW Nitro show. Sting says that he has talked to Vince McMahon in the past, but not recently. He said that things would usually go south when the lawyers got involved.
Sting was asked about Shawn Michaels appearing on Raw, and that factor could help him because they share similar beliefs. Sting said that if he did go to the WWE, he would not be in any storyline that would turn him away.
Sting was asked about who he misses being around, and he misses Ric Flair, Rick Steiner, Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall.
Sting was asked about whether wrestlers would try to take advantage of him when they were not familiar with his opponent. He talked about Mick Foley and he saw someone who was hungry and he worked with the tools he had. Mick has a great mind for the business, and Sting wanted to enhance what Mick wanted to do. He said that your opponent is a reflection of yourself in the ring.
Sting was asked about working with Ric Flair and the respect that he got, especially in the 45 minute match at a Clash of the Champions. Sting believes that Ric helped put him on the map. Flair was willing to make Sting look better when he had the chance to do the opposite. He feels that in the first twelve months with the company, he learned so much more. He talked about the respect that was given to Ric Flair in the back, and then he had to face him in the ring. Flair made Sting feel comfortable in the ring.
Sting was asked if he misses the reaction from being in front of thousands of fans. He does not mind missing the problems with being recognized out of the ring. Sting loved working in the ring with Flair and Hogan as well as the character change with the NWO. Sting was asked about the 'Crow' character and whether he had problems with it. Sting said that he was happy with the character, and if there was ever an interview that made it look like he did not like the character was probably taken out of context. Sting understood that wrestling was changing at that time, and when Scott Hall and Kevin Nash cut their first promo in WCW, Sting felt that it would change the company. Sting talked about working matches with Hogan before he turned, and he saw Hogan getting booed in the ring. Sting felt that he would probably have to change. Sting said that the idea came from Scott Hall to come out in the long jacket and paint his entire face.
Sting was asked about the Blade Runners gimmick in UWF. He mentioned that people called them the 'Maybeline Road Warriors'. Sting said that he would not be able to do the blonde flattop look if he returned, but he would probably do the 'Crow' gimmick.
Sting talked about how most of the wrestlers who were on top in WCW that went to WWE did not see the character they saw in WCW. People wanted to see them do what they did in WCW with some changes. Sting talked about Booker's first interaction with Rock and one comment from Rock made Booker look small. Sting feels that if he came back they would want to see what he was doing before WCW ended. Sting was asked about the 'Invasion' angle and what he would have wanted to see. Sting said that even though the WWE said they had the WCW, they really didn't see the WCW they remembered. Sting said that Hogan, Luger, Savage, and Flair were there when the Invasion began. People wanted to see dream matches between the companies, but they never happened. Sting said that Luger appearing on the first Nitro sparked things for WCW.
Sting said that he would consider coming back to TNA and he wants one more chance. Sting said that Jerry Jarrett first hired him. Sting talked about how he separated his shoulder, and he was let go but sent to Bill Watts. He likes the idea of the TNA taping schedule because of the travel.
Sting was asked about Jim Hellwig's persona and was asked if he was as 'out there' as he is perceived, but he has not seen Jim in three or four years. He talked about how he met Jim and said that he worked real hard in the wrestling camp.
Sting was asked about whether he was ever tempted to leave WCW since he was one of the few to be there the entire time without ever leaving. He talked to Vince a few times, and he seemed like he was going to make things phenomenal for him. However, he would go to WCW to see what they would do for him. Every time that Sting threatened to go to New York, WCW would do the things for him. He felt loyal to WCW and Turner and had to take his family into consideration.
Sting said that when Hogan came to WCW, he had some issues, but he understood what Hogan did for wrestling. Sting mentioned the loyalty of WCW fans and he said that when Hogan came to WCW, the fans did not like it everywhere.
The interview ended with Sting being asked if he would be satisfied with the way his career ended, and he did not like the way it ended because he did not like being a second class citizen in the 'lean years'. When the exciting things happened, he enjoyed holding his head high. However, things slipped away and the backstabbing and ulterior motives started to wear on him. Sting felt that he gave so much to the business over the years, and he still misses being in front of the fans especially when the storyline was right.
