* It was reported recently that one of Paul Heyman's pitches before being removed from the writing team was for a barbed wire match at the next SmackDown! PPV, No Way Out. However, once Heyman was removed, the possibility of such a match occurring seemed to take a huge hit.
More evidence that WWE was, and possibly still is, planning such a match comes from the iNDemand preview for WWE No Way Out:
"Conflict has a new battleground in the first ever barbed wire steel cage match. There's no place to run. There's no way out. SmackDown presents WWE's No Way Out, Sunday, February 20th, live at 8pmET/5pmPT on Events iN DEMAND pay-per-view."
WWE has been known to release tentative plans to the PPV companies that never end up coming to fruition, but it should be noted that there was a sense of seriousness about the barbed wire match.
