UPDATES: El Hijo del Perro Aguayo’s Death – Doctors Delayed Reaction?

UPDATE x 5: MedioTiempo.com says that the cause of death for Perro Aguayo Jr was a stroke due to cervical spinal damage.

Meanwhile, the article also has a reason why it took nearly two minutes for Aguayo to receive any treatment. The doctor in charge of the show was busy with two other wrestlers who were injured. That’s why he wasn’t at ringside for the main event. Someone had to find him backstage and tell him something was wrong. The reason Aguayo was carried out on plywood was to get him backstage as fast as possible. He was moved to a stretcher for the ambulance once he got backstage. He was rushed to the Hospital del Prado in Tijuana. Doctors tried to revive him for an hour before declaring that he was dead.

UPDATE x 4: The Associated Press has picked up the story of Perro Aguayo Jr’s passing. In their report, it’s stated that the death is being investigated as a possible manslaughter.

Hijo Del Santo also commented on the death. He said: “It makes me very sad because he was a professional colleague and I have great affection for his father. I think the fans in Japan, the U.S. and Mexico of course, where he was very popular, must be in mourning, especially because of his youth. He had much ahead of him.”

Meanwhile, TMZ.com (which also has footage of the incident) reported that the cause of death appears to be snapped his neck or spine after a stunt gone wrong, which goes along with previous reports.

Rey Mysterio has commented on the tragedy on Twitter. Roughly translated, he wrote: “Just formed a friendship between brothers who opened years ago and we should not question the designs of God. But in this occasion I wonder why and I do not understand it…I take you with me for the rest of my life, rest in peace HijoDelPerro.”

UPDATE x 3: Here is a description of the match based off the videos that have surfaced online with a better idea of what possibly led to Aguayo’s passing. Keep in mind, this is all speculation based on someone’s viewing of the match in question. You can read the account of the match below:

“All four men are battling in the ring when Aguayo is nailed with a missile dropkick. He takes a bump that results in him flopping over and landing on his stomach. He returns to his feet and takes a head scissors from Mysterio, bumping outside to the floor, twisting his body while running to take the move and go through the ropes. Aguayo lands on the outside and returns to the ring and is dropkicked, resulting in him landing against the ropes in the traditional position to take the 619. It appears Aguayo may have suffered a spinal trauma while taking the bump to the outside of the ring, not realized it (possibly due to the adrenaline of performing) and worsened the injury taking the dropkick after he returned to the ring. Once he hits the ropes, Aguayo is completely out and it appears that since he landed in the normal position to take the 619, that greatly added to the confusion as initially one would think he was just selling.”

UPDATE x 2: Please be warned that some of you may find the following video disturbing as it shows El Hijo del Perro Aguayo unconscious after taking a Rey Mystero spot. He later passed away at a hospital:

UPDATE: AAA released the following statement today on his passing:

“The grief overwhelms our hearts. Rest in peace, El Hijo del Perro Aguayo.”

Following his passing, TJ Perkins/Manik posted the following tweets on Aguayo.

Aguayo was the son of lucha libre legend Perro Aguayo. He previously worked in both AAA and CMLL. On behalf of everyone here on the website, our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Perro Aguayo Jr.

ORIGINAL: Pro wrestler Perro Aguayo Jr., aka El Hijo del Perro Aguayo (real name Pedro Aguayo Ramirez) sadly passed away earlier this morning (March 21). He died after as a result of injuries he sustained in a match at a CRASH event in Tijuana, Mexico on Friday (March 20). Aguayo was 35 years old.

The match was headlined by Aguayo and TNA’s Manik against Rey Mysterio and Extreme Triger (Tigre Uno in TNA). His death was reportedly caused by cervical spine trauma due to a blow to the head after an apparent kick by Mysterio to set up his 619 move. Aguayo is said to have struck his head on the ropes badly while he was going down to get into position to take the move.

Video of the match reportedly shows the aftermath of the spot. Aguayo looks to be in position to take the 619 from Mysterio. Manik moves to escape, but Aguayo does not. The other wrestlers then began to improvise as the referee began to check on Aguayo, who was not moving. Extreme Tiger executes a dive to the outside on Manik while Konnan and Mysterio look to check on Aguayo. Konnan reportedly tried to rouse Aguayo, while Mysterio did a 619 on Manik right next to them. Mysterio then hit a splash off the top rope to score the pin, and Konnan signals that something is not right.

Aguayo was taken from the Municipal Auditorium to Del Prado Hospital by paramedics after he was treated. He was reportedly pronounced dead at 1AM.
