Joey Styles Released From WWE

Joey Styles has been recently released from WWE according to a report from Pro Wrestling Sheet.

Styles participated in a “Facebook Q&A” towards the end of July which he described as a “shoot interview.” No word on if that had anything to do with his release, but his last tweet was also a couple of days later, on July 29. The video has also since been deleted by WWE. Some are speculating that some of his comments in the video (particularly about Roman Reigns) may have angered Vince McMahon, but just based on some quotes we’ve read, they don’t seem to be anything particularly controversial. In a transcript from Uproxx, Styles had the following to say:

Fan question: “Why has WWE tried so hard to shove Roman Reigns down our throats as a babyface for so long?”

Styles: “Bottom line is, if our chairman thinks he sees a future star as a babyface, that’s how things are gonna play out … But the answer is Vince thinks it can work. He’s been right much, much, much, much, much more than wrong over the course of the last 40 years. I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna second-guess the chairman. … Moms are the ones who bring kids to shows. Kids like Roman Reigns. Moms like Roman Reigns. That’s the reason. Just because some people boo him doesn’t mean everyone doesn’t like him.”

Styles had been involved in WWE’s websites, with the title “Vice President of Digital Media Content.”
