September 26, 2017
Glendale, AZ
Commentary: Vic Joseph and Nigel McGuinness

In-Ring: Enzo Amore

Enzo Amore’s celebration and burial of the cruiserweight division were shown to start the show, along with Neville getting his revenge and standing up for the cruiserweights last night. Amore was played up like even more of a heel in this, with Neville coming off as someone who is just standing up for what is truly right. Vic Joseph kicked off the show by calling Amore a deserted champion.

Amore got a mixed reaction here for the first time ever, but he was getting more cheers than boos. He limped out with a crutch while Joseph and Byron Saxton (who was on commentary tonight) talked about how they’re surprised he can even walk. Amore did his usual promo and was back to being mostly cheered. The crowd chanted that they wanted Neville before Amore showed off his bandaged up arm. Amore said he hides his pain almost as well as Cedric Alexander hides his charisma.

Amore took credit for putting 205 Live on the map before getting more boos and saying he’s the only reason people stayed to watch the show. Amore noted he’s all banged up due to what happened last night, then we saw how Braun Strowman destroyed him and the entire division attacked him after Raw.

The crowd gave Amore a “You deserve it” chant for the beating, with him saying he really does deserve the title. Amore said he flew his mother out to see her own son get destroyed by a monster and an entire division. He then said that thanks to all of them, he can put this title on ice and he can actually retire as champion.

Akira Tozawa defeated Tony Nese

Nese shoved Tozawa off so he could pose, then Tozawa got a “Ah” chant before eating a forearm. On commentary, Drew Gulak said that Tozawa is good, but he could be even better. Tozawa hit a snap buzzsaw kick before landing a senton and teasing a senton off the top, but Nese tripped him up. Nese hit a running knee and got two before working Tozawa over. Nese nailed his sit-up kicks in the corner before landing a charging knee to the jaw for two. He locked on a bodyscissors and then a torture rack, but Tozawa escaped and hit a rana and a Saito suplex for two. Tozawa went up for the senton, but Nese left the ring — so Tozawa hit a suicide dive and got two. Nese Matrixed out of a kick before flipping out of a back suplex and getting a two count off a cradle. Tozawa hit an overhead kick, sent him down, and landed the senton off the top for the win. This got really great towards the end — it actually felt like cruiserweight action on display.

Drew Gulak blared his siren, resulting in even louder “Ah” chants. He explained his rules for the division in Japanese, which was a great touch. Gulak said that Tozawa violated proposals number three and number seven, the second of which he hasn’t gotten the chance to show on his PowerPoint presentation yet. Proposal seven is no celebrating. Celebration turns the fans into sheep, and Gulak said they might as well be chanting “Bah.” That led to Tozawa laying him out with a big kick.

Backstage: Enzo Amore and Ariya Daivari

Amore chanted “You deserve it” to the title belt before Ariya Daivari told him that he is sorry for what he did last night. Amore didn’t accept the apology, then Daivari said he gave in to peer pressure. He knows that Amore would never do that because he’s an original. Amore said he isn’t a piece of toast — so don’t butter him up.

Daivari told Amore to watch his match against Neville tonight to see how sincere he is, with Amore replying that he’ll be in his corner. Daivari said “How you doin'” — and Amore told him to never do that again.

Segment: TJP and Rich Swann

TJP came down to face Lince Dorado and we got a recap of his attack on Rich Swann last week. Swann came in and attacked TJP with a flurry of punches before tossing him into the buckle. He went for his hook kick, but TJP escaped through the crowd.

Backstage: Jack Gallagher and Brian Kendrick

Gallagher said they are aligned due to cruelty — leaves fall like the weak and Alexander should enjoy sunny days, because he is going to have a cruel winter on 205 Live. These two make a great pair of sinister guys.

Neville defeated Ariya Daivari

Neville got a lot of cheers coming out and cut a promo on Amore. He’s tired of hearing that he’s going mad and advised Amore to keep one eye open at all times because he will feed off of his pain and misery.

Amore entered to more boos while Saxton talked about Neville going from the division’s destroyer to its savior. Neville stared at Amore outside, and got jumped by Daivari as a result. He ate a pair of shots into the barricade before being flipped into another one. Daivari hit a pair of pendulum backbreakers, but could only get one.

Amore mocked Neville for wanting his title, so Daivari delivered a third backbreaker. Daivari sent Neville into the buckle hard twice before Amore insulted Neville and danced with the title in front of him. Daivari dropped Neville off the top with a reverse DDT for two and kicked away at him. Neville ate a jumping knee and a big forearm strike got two.

Neville avoided a frog splash, then he connected with some kicks. He turned his attention to Amore and went to the outside, leading to Daivari hitting a dropkick on him from inside the ring. Daivari went for the hammerlock lariat when they got back in, but Neville took him down and locked on the Rings of Saturn for the win.

Amore, who is now very clearly the heel in this, came in after and beat Neville up with his crutch. They played it up like Amore has snapped and he left while chanting “You deserve it” at Neville. Saxton said that Amore is the last man standing tonight, but he doesn’t know who this guy is.

They have done an excellent job of playing this off as well as they can by having Amore hold the title. He doesn’t deserve it, and in giving it to him, they’ve created a fairly compelling story of Neville trying to redeem himself by reclaiming his crown for the good of the division as a whole.

Unlike many heels who turn face, Neville’s core heel character still feels intact here — he’s just eating a lot more offense, and being a bit flashier.
