According to two of my sources in Florida Championship Wrestling, WWE has released developmental wrestler Mike Kruel. Kruel had been in developmental for quite some time (approximately two and a half years), but was unable to be called up to the main roster. Kruel was one of the top technical indy wrestlers in the northeast when he signed with WWE in July 2006. During his time under contract to WWE, Kruel won the OVW Heavyweight Championship and OVW Television Championship.
I can also EXCLUSIVELY report tonight that WWE has released ECW wrestler Gavin Spears (real name Ronnie Arniell). WWE has yet to announce his release on the company website. Spears signed a developmental contract with WWE on January 21, 2006. Spears had a successful run in Ohio Valley Wrestling, winning the Southern Tag Team Championships on four occasions as well as the OVW Television Championship three times over. Spears made his WWE debut on the ECW brand this past August as part of General Manager Theodore Long’s new talent initiative. Spears lost to Ricky Ortiz in his debut match. He lost to Super Crazy in his second match, but before the match, cut a promo claiming to be “the crown jewel of the talent initiative.” After nearly two months of inactivity, Spears returned to television on December 16th in a losing effort to Finlay. Spears kept busy in Florida Championship Wrestling during his time of infrequent use in WWE.
Neither of these releases have been confirmed by WWE just yet.
