Regarding plans for this week’s annual WWE Draft, it is pretty much a given that the Raw roster will be beefed up come tomorrow night. The feeling is that the Raw roster is weak at the moment as a result of last year’s draft when SmackDown was beefed up. Last year they made big moves pushing Triple H, Jeff Hardy and Jim Ross over to the brand to help strengthen the show with the move to MyNetworkTV. However, that move has proven to be somewhat unsuccessful with Smackdown ratings down significantly and MyNetworkTV making changes constantly.
What with the uncertainty of the future of MyNetworkTV, they’re looking to bulk up Raw again. WWE officials had Raw touring with ECW due to the feeling the roster is much too slim on its own.
Company officials are also looking to give fresh new starts to a few wrestlers and many feel John Morrison and The Miz will be split up and moved into singles competition. The feeling is that Raw won’t lose anyone of significance as Raw is being bulked back up to the “A show” — as its always been looked at.
Also, expect a few more releases once everyone has been sorted. Those taken in the Supplemental Draft should definitely be on the lookout as last year, three wrestlers were released before they even got to debut on their new brand (Chuck Palumbo, Big Daddy V and Trevor Murdoch), one still has yet to debut (DH Smith), and three more were pretty much a wash (Matt Striker as a wrestler, plus Deuce & Super Crazy).
We’ve got seven confirmed WWE Draft names online here. We will continue to update them here as we get more.
