Denise Salcedo held a recent interview with Brody King. One of the topics discussed included King’s thoughts about his anti-ICE stance and how he does not view it as a “political thing” and instead just something he feels is what is right and what is wrong.
“I mean, it has been great, and I feel like when I was younger, I always wanted somebody that felt like me on a, you know, on TV or wherever, like, to express the way that they felt so I can have someone to, like, champion for me, and if I can be that for other people that are being marginalized, then… I want to be that for them. Everyone tries to bring up the political thing. In my opinion, it’s just what’s right and what’s wrong, and there’s a lot of wrong happening in the world, and if I can speak out against it, then I will, and we’ve got guys like Mick Foley who also do the same thing.”
King also gave his thoughts about the support he has received for his stance on the issue and the anti-ICE chants by fans at AEW shows.
“Well, it’s funny, because, you know, I wore the Abolish ICE shirt at Arena Mexico, I mean, almost a year now. I think it was June of last year, and the Fuck ICE chants happened this year, right before Australia. So it like, got a lot of attention for the shirt, and then it, out of nowhere, kind of picked up more attention. I mean, obviously, you know, the state of things gets more boiled over. People are frustrated, and that’s going to come out in certain ways. I can’t think of a more positive way for it to come out than them chanting it at a wrestling show. You know what I mean?”
King also gave his thoughts about his first reaction to hearing the anti-ICE chants for the first time prior to his match with MJF
“It took me off guard, but it also, like, I felt like I could run through a wall at that moment, and I feel like the way that MJF looked at that camera, he knew I was going to run through a wall as well.”
King also gave his thoughts about the future of his and Bandido’s tag team pairing in AEW.
“Me and Bandido have been friends for a long time, since PWG, honestly. Then we went to Ring of Honor together. We went to Japan together. We’ve been around each other for a very long time, so we’re very familiar with each other. We know how each other wrestles. We’ve wrestled each other a bunch, so when we did this, I think it was just like a random, like, all-star tag team match or whatever, and then our chemistry was just perfect. Somebody, I think, tweeted the word Brodido, and then Tony was like, that’s it, Brodido. Then we became champions. We had a classic match with FTR. We had a great match with Takeshita and Okada. I can’t complain. We had great matches with the Young Bucks. I hope that once everything starts to settle down, we can get back to tag team wrestling, and Brodido, you definitely haven’t seen the end of Brodido.”
