According to a backstage WWE source, the reason Bret Hart is not being used on WWE TV right now is because Hart’s contract with the company has expired. Due to his contract ending, the decision was made not to put him on television going further for cameos and other low-level appearances, since they have several stars under legends deals that can do these type of things. The feeling internally is that if they have something big for Hart to do, they will sign him to another short-term contract.
Hart and WWE remain on good terms, and Hart has worked in markets such as Calgary and in Europe, where his name means more. He also enjoys working these days. The relationship works out for both sides, as Hart gets to return to places he was a major star in and liked performing, while WWE gets a special attraction for their fans.
