Kurt Angle was featured in a recent New York Times article about five athletes improbably trying to return to the Olympics. Angle was profiled along with swimmers Ian Thorpe and Janet Evans, gymnast Paul Hamm and cyclist Jason Queally. Check out Angle’s profile below:
“Kurt Angle of the United States won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. It was a poignant victory, coming months after his coach, David Schultz, was killed by John E. du Pont. Angle has since become a star in the theatrical world of professional wrestling. He has said that, at 43, he intends to participate in the Olympic wrestling trials in April, but there is much debate among American officials about whether Angle is serious or just seeking publicity.”
