In today’s WWE press release, which discussed the 2012 first quarter results, Vince McMahon addressed the WrestleMania 28 buyrate. Here is what he had to say…
“We are very pleased that our positive first quarter execution continued in April with the successful staging of WrestleMania, which is expected to deliver nearly 1.3 million pay-per-view buys globally.”
Also in today’s WWE press release, they released the PPV numbers for the quarter. They are as follows…
* Royal Rumble: 443,000 (-3,000 from last year)
* Elimination Chamber: 178,000 (-21,000 from last year)
* Prior Event Buys in the Quarter: 64,000 (+ 19,000 from last year)
* Total PPV Buys in the Quarter: 685,000 (-5,000 from last year)
From the press release…
Pay-Per-View revenues were $13.5 million in both the current and prior year quarter, as a 3% increase in the average revenue per buy was offset by a comparable decline in current year buys. The increase in average revenue per buy was attributable to higher retail prices charged for viewing our events in high definition. The decline in buys for the two events in the quarter was driven by an 8% decline in international buys as domestic buys remain essentially unchanged.
