Joyce Farhat, the wife of the Original Sheik, passed away on Wednesday night after being sick for some time. She worked with Sheik as The Princess Salima. She had been on life support before her death, according to Facebook posts made by Sabu, her nephew.
She worked along with her husband Ed (the Original Sheik) as his valet and then behind-the-scenes in Big Time Wrestling in Detroit. When kayfabe was strictly enforced, The Sheik had to keep silent in public. She would order for him in restaurants, speak for him on airplanes and allow him to stay in character. Even in 1993 she would go with him to autograph signings to talk to fans and sign items they wanted personalized since “The Sheik would not speak or write English.”
She had a cameo in the 1985 film I Like To Hurt People, which looked at The Sheik’s career in Detroit. She was just identified as a fan, as an easter egg for fans who knew who she was. In 2007, she accepted his WWE Hall of Fame induction for him (he died in 2003) in Detroit, Michigan.
We would like to give our condolences to her family, friends and fans.
