A new report explains why WWE booked CM Punk to beat The Shield at the TLC PPV this month was done for two different reasons.
First, after booking John Cena and Daniel Bryan to lose their matches at the event, the feeling was all three faces couldn’t lose on the same show.
The second reason was because WWE wanted to add to the drama around The Shield, with Roman Reigns spearing Dean Ambrose, setting up Punk to get the pin.
On Monday, WWE had Roman Reigns get the pin on Punk with the idea that Reigns will eventually be the real “golden boy” of the company, due to his look and sports background that WWE prefers. This is unlike Punk and Bryan, both of whom will never be able to get past the size and look issues WWE has according to the report.
Punk was also reportedly “protected” from the loss with the feeling that him doing a promo segment with Shawn Michaels before the match would leave a larger impression on fans than Punk being pinned.
