As you may recall, back in March it was reported that a Las Vegas-based promotion known as the Classic Wrestling Federation was trying to get off the ground. The promotion had been contacting talent and asking if they would sign letters of intent in terms of interest in working for them when they launched. The promotion may be making some public announcements soon as they have been putting together plans involving live events and TV tapings for 2016.
A source notes that Bill Townsend, an internet entrepreneur who helped create platforms like Lycos, is listed as the president of the company on internal CWF memos. The promotion has put the launch out to 2016 in order to give them all the time they need to be ready for both the launch and touring schedule. The plans include an attempt to run a total of 250 live events in the US and perhaps internationally as well.
The promotion would be based out of Las Vegas and would be presenting a product with the classic babyfaces vs. heels dynamic, with an eye toward the avdertiser-friendly male 18-34 demographic that loved the Monday Night War era of wrestrling. The site adds that Shane Douglas and Cody Michaels are said to be heavily involved in the project.
