The original plan for ROH Final Battle was for Adam Cole to win the ROH world title back from Jay Briscoe at the event. Instead, Jay Briscoe retained the belt against Cole at the event. There were no title changes during the event and the New York City crowd wasn’t happy about it.
The plans changed because Cole is injured, and he may need to take time off for shoulder surgery. At this time, it is unknown how serious the injury is and if he needs surgery immediately. However, the concern over the injury had management opt to keep the title on Briscoe for now.
