The Minnesota Vikings have announced that Patrick Talty, the former WWE Senior Vice President of Live Events, has been appointed as General Manager of new Minnesota Multi-Purpose Stadium. The stadium is currently being called “Vikings Stadium” by Minnesotans and will serve as the home stadium for the Vikings starting with the 2016 stadium.
There is some speculation that the new stadium and the appointment of a former WWE executive could lead WWE to host WrestleMania in Minnesota for the first time in the next couple of years. WWE generally avoids the midwest for WrestleMania because of the harsh weather that extends into spring, with only WrestleMania 23 taking place there over the last several years (and that was an enclosed field). WWE has made a habit of selecting new stadiums over the last few WrestleManias, trying to set attendance records. Vikings Stadium will have a total attendance of around 73,000.
